Jon Stewart nails it on Fascism

From wiki:

"Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/ FASH-iz-əm) is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement,[1][2][3] characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy."

We are by definition in fascism right now. To the letter.
Well if wiki says it!!!

Call it what you want but I love the current mood of the country…so bring on more fascism if that’s what it is. I love seeing actually transparency and common sense from our govt

Bruno doing everything he can to minimize the Rapist.

And the road to fascism is Death By 1000 cuts.

If you keep ignoring all of them, by the time you say "Hey....Wait a minute there", it is too late.
So, Jon is a bit off on this one. You absolutely can have power-grabs that are unconstitutional called for what they are.

The SC did not help when it provided "absolute immunity" even for crimes committed in office; most Constitutional scholars (and Justice Luttig) have stated that was one of their worst decisions, ever. It literally would have prevented Nixon from being impeached - that's how bad it is.

Jon is also wrong in that "Fascism is on the Ballot" was not a major talking point - it was mostly ignored on the main Elno platforms, that targeted immigrants and trans people.

No one even bothered to read Project2025, which was an overt plan to take over the federal government and eliminate democratic norms. That got zero play; now people are "living it" and Finding Out.

Pretty weird response by them but it doesn’t surprise me at all that is their take from the premise of video.
From Merriam Webster. This describes Trump exactly.

"Fascism : a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition"

Which we are knocking on the door of.

Stewart made good comments there, as always. It’s impossible to have quality conversation here on anything related to politics though. And unfortunately, a conversation about peanut butter would become political in this place.

Bruno made a political post. Now you're complaining that we're making political responses?

The responses are predictable, but I think the greater takeaway is that we are even having this discussion.

And it’s not out of the realm of possibilities. There is little doubt Trump is going to continually test that line.

These threads are weird as f@ck.

Subject in embedded video: The media is too hyperbolic and it's overuse of incendiary language is numbing our perceptions.

HBBros: See! I was right about the effect the words you randoms on the internet use. I'm calm and you're crazy!

I liken it to when the tea party was formed. Social media was still in its infancy as the boomers were still playing FarmVille but if we had it then I would be presenting something along the lines of what Jon is saying here.

There were plenty of outlandish things said about Obama but the right used Marxist and socialist a lot during that time. I’m sure if we had socials back then it would have been in overdrive with the Tea Party.

We are obviously not a fascist nation lead by NAZIs that the left and the media has made it out to be as we just had an election 3 weeks ago where Republicans won. They have been beating this narrative since 2015 with Trump and the republicans. At some point these words lose their actual meaning along the way and the left uses it to attack everyone not on board with one item on their agenda.

I think with independents growing as a voting bloc and the left using these to describe the middle now it will hurt them long term in national elections. Calling someone a NAZI because they think some of the things Trump is doing is good is not the way Dems. It’s all about the messaging and you have been failing horribly as is seen in this thread.

Dictatorial leader put in place by a democratic election where he won the dreaded electoral college and the much celebrated popular vote. Makes perfect sense. 🙄

Who are you talking to? Because it's hard to tell with these types of posts. They dance around from the highest levels of power all the way down to accounts on rivals that might not even be real people, and ironically seem to weigh the impact as nearly equal.

I know you think you're being cute, but history shows that the established legal means is typically the way authoritarian governments come about.
