Jon Stewart nails it on Fascism

Like I pointed out, there's a reason there isn't Right wing comedians. It ain't funny.

Probably because the randoms on this site continue to defend the media and elected officials who use the rhetoric and follow suit in using it themselves.

I also said social media which in turn is the American people aka HORT

Does this really hold water for you two? How do you know what you're reading from these social media accounts is coming from real people or is an actual belief instead of sh!tposting or misinformation?

I'm honestly trying to understand how a person can arrive at a place where they are being so influenced by the decorum of unverified accounts that they choose to vote in real elections based on not wanting to be associated with the offending language/mindset/or hyperbole. It all just seems so shallow and weak to me.

Modern Social media is all about not wanting to be associated with group “X”. Venture over to the echo chamber of Reddit or even the whole own the Libs shit going on with social media.

Social media has a MASSIVE influence from unverified accts to help sway votes. Have you not been alive since the Obama years?

Right it is, and judging by you continuing to circle back to this it has me thinking that maybe you think this is good thing and needs to be expanded upon or is an intelligent way to take part in the political process?

Ted Kaczynski would approve of your post. I don't mean that in a derogatory way. And I'm not praising the Unabomber! (Gasp). Yet, with that said, do you remember sitting in a bar, waiting for a bus, sitting on a plane...whatever...without having immersive technology to exclude you from everyone else? Where it was ackward to NOT engage random people? I feel like even the smallest respectful engagement between people, in person, means a hell of a lot. Even complete opposites. And I think we've lost a whole lot of that due to how easy technology has allowed us to escape basic human interaction. And to only be with people just like us.

I do, and I do my best to try to still have a handful of interactions like that a week. It's weird but I've really come to enjoy going to the grocery store on Saturday mornings because I know I can have at least two positive interactions with some older folks.

I’m circling back around to it because you keep asking questions about it.

I don’t think it is a good thing because it’s basically propaganda on steroids and it’s a horrible way to take part in the political process. Years of everyone being able to post shit anonymously using Nazi/fascist/Marxist/socialist all the time lessens the meaning of these words and creates this massive division you see now. Not to mention these Super PACs being able to take advantage of these types and weaponize it to their advantage.

I'm not so old yet, but I'm old enough to remember when tech wasn't nearly as consuming. I like to take advice from John Prine and say hello. It's amazing what you'll hear.

I keep asking because instead of giving your opinion, which I understand is a risk online, you've just been telling me it's happening(which I'm quite aware).

If you don't think it's a good think, then why do you reference these things and in some cases proliferate them?

Feel free not to get into it, you owe me nothing.

I am a pretty big nerd when it comes to politics and history. So I reference these things because I think it is a very interesting topic in our current time in history. Also I listen to Jon Stewart and Ezra Klein a lot and it’s been brought up numerous times since the election and he has brought it up a couple of times lately. There was a thread started by @Jimmy McGill about Jon and Psaki talking about all things democrats and messaging was a huge topic for them. I think it’s a fascinating time for the Democrats on how to navigate through this 2nd Term of the Trump administration and I think falling back onto old bad habits is the wrong move. I have also been enjoying the introspective reflection from the left of what went wrong, what they could have done, etc… after the election.

I also think it is important to bring this up because I think it is very detrimental to our society. I try to be as civil as I can on here to have conversations like we are having now compared to falling back to the inflammatory terms that lessen the actual meaning and gets us no where.

Only time I am not civil is when it comes to taking down the Fran White Knights.

That’s not the point at all and I’m not sure why you think it is.

First of all, Stewart is not your average Hollywood celebrity. He’s much more intelligent and articulate than most of them. And he’s not just a comedian. He’s also an accomplished interviewer and he has testified in front of Congress.

But the point here is that when someone like Stewart, who hates Trump with every fiber of his being, says some of the rhetoric being used by Dems isn’t helpful, you might want to consider the possibility that some of the rhetoric you’re using isn’t helpful.
Stweart uses comedy for expression and a medium. He wouldn't have a show without comedy. As far as my rhetoric, I am deliberatively aggressive because I've been around long enough to have seen and witnessed the ugliness of bigotry and hatred perpetuated by ultraconservatism. I have a problem with people who to refuse accept information. Learning is a fife long necessity, and I see on this board the ignorance. Being knowledgeable is not a Red/Blue issue. It's a matter of constantly seeking data to be as informed as possible.

Those opposed to my position on this can simply acquiesce to be less or lower informed and so be it. Of course, the debate boils down to source. I get my information from a number of sources, and when I run into a subject, word or term I'm not familiar with I research it. I'm 76 years old and always in a learning mode and have been most of my life. I can't tolerate people who obviously are not aware or knowledgeable of current affairs or get erroneous information from malicious sources and voice their opinions,

This is when I get abrasive and will not apologize.

Weighing the quality and accuracy of journalism is as much a matter of character is it of wisdom.

USPS is done now.

No idea how all those military mail-in ballots are gonna work anymore...

This will be another constitutional showdown. This pin head is going all in, that's for sure. Do the Reptiles realize there are midterms on the horizon? A pissed off public is not a good idea. Maybe the Orange Turd and President Rasputin are thinking "no mid-term elections".

The Daily Show obviously relies heavily on comedy. But his Weekly Show podcast is much more serious. And while he naturally injects a certain amount of humor into the podcast, he demonstrates that he can also hold his own in earnest conversations.

He’s talented enough and intelligent enough that he could do well hosting any format of politically-oriented show, anywhere from comedy to roundtable discussion.

And - again - when someone like Stewart, who clearly despises everything about Trump, says the rhetoric has gone overboard then maybe the rhetoric has gone overboard.

But what do I know? I’m not 76 years old yet.
