Jones - 2 yrs of eligibility left

I believe he can play next year and then apply for a 6th year due to his injuries that have cost him 2 years.

Post #1 & #2 are slightly contradictory. Anyone know the correct answer?
From his bio, he graduated from HS in 2012, so I assume that means he has taken a redshirt year along the way already (he was a junior this season in his 4th year removed from HS). If that's the case, next year would be his last year unless he gets the 6th year medical waiver. I have no idea for the reason for his earlier redshirt year, so that would presumably play into whether or not he qualifies for the 6th year.

Wasn't his first redshirt year used to recover from his first knee injury? In that case he should have a case for a 6th year should he choose.

He took a RS in JUCO for an injury. And he only played in 6 games this year. It will be a pretty clear cut case for him to get another year if he wants it.

I believe that's right and would have to agree with you. The question is what that does to scholarship availability.

I wasn't following Creighton before Doug McDermott went to Creighton to know about the player on his team that applied for a sixth year because of injury. I can't think of his name but he qualified and received a 6th year when McDermott was a senior. Creighton didn't have any open scholarships so Doug played his senior year as a walk on so as to give that player his scholarship. I guess he had already had two seasons of injury. I don't know how often that happens but it can be done though the NCA cogs turn slowly and if Jones applied like Naz Long they probably won't know if they qualified until next basketball season. That makes it difficult for a coach as well in building their roster.

ISU says Naz Long's time played qualifies for what is allowed for a red shirt but you still have to apply and wait and see.

Gibbs from Linn Mar

I believe Gibbs did not play in the one season he was hurt (second sit out season was for transferring), as opposed to Jones having played in games this year.

If I remember correctly it was a broken wrist his freshman year. I could be wrong.

I believe Jones will be 23 at the end of next season. Depending on his health and the kind of season he has, he might want to consider if he wants to play another year of amatuer ball after that.

Not about Jones in particular, but any 23 year old that probably either has, or soon will have his college degree might think it would be a bit of a stretch to play for 2 more years.
Unless he is confident he will be playing pro ball...and if he's that good he would probably seek the paycheck, eligibility or not.

What would be his alternative?
