That's what I was thinking. With our size and athleticism around the rim, IMO, the opposition will think twice about attacking the rim. I'm not saying they won't, but it should be pretty difficult with Garza, Cook, Kreiner, Baer, and Nunge hanging around. I haven't forgotten Cordell. If he's healthy, look out.The good thing is that we will have some real height again that hopefully stops a few more shots at the rim.
Solid. Positional. Defense.
That's where you start. If you are where you're supposed to be, that solves a ton of the problem. Then, help defense. And THEN, blocked shots, as a bonus.
True, not to mention that Garza and Nunge's presense will help push last years frosh for playing time. Kreiner for one really seems to have picked up his game, although I think he's just healthier then he was at this time last year. You are correct. And often, especially early last year, our young guys got caught between staying home and helping. Just a matter of experience which most of our guys now have.
12 days away (exhibition but hey it’s something)!
I hope Monday’s press conference is like a two hour deal where they pin Fran down to discuss the lineups he might use against a hot shooting perimeter team, or a team with an explosive SF that can get into the paint.
I want to know about player development, which players are comfortable shooting at what ranges. Who’s put on muscle.
And most importantly — verticals.
http://hawkeyesports.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbballExhibition game in 12 days? I must have missed that. Who are we scrimmaging against? Is it a ticketed event?
I want Tom to put the bigs shoulder to shoulder and shoot a picture with all 3 of them with their hands in the air just to see who has the highest standing reach.
Kreiner apparently has the longest wingspan for his height so I think all 3 may be within 1" of each other.
Maybe put JaBo in there just for fun![]()
I thought Nunge came in at 6’11
When he and Garza stand near each other they look to be the same height.
2432 Hawk. I think we could utilize you as a point post. You just stand with the ball on the blocks, and we screen until you find an open shooter.
Pemsl will hopefully be stronger this season. He is far from being a credible leaper.Cook Kreiner and Pemsl were all around the rim and we couldn't protect it last year.
Garza doesn't have to block shots - just alter them.
