Just about to post the same thing. Pretty sure we backed off Goodwin when Dailey committed.I kind of thought the Goodwin ship sailed when we snatched Dailey in the 2016 class.
We weren't in his top 7 anyways so it's not really a surprise. I'm just super happy that he won't be playing for Groce, who doesn't really deserve top talent.
I believe Ford hired Goodwin's father or stepfather
National signing day isn't until Feb and considering the caliber of player that Goodwin is if he ends up at SLU I'll be shocked.
Smart career and personal move by Tate..His wife and kids were living in St Louis while he was coaching at Mizzu(his Alma Mater)for the previous 14-15 months... Mizzu is absolutely horrid..With a new AD on board, I doubt Kim Anderson lasts more than this upcoming season. Tate now has a 2 year guaranteed deal working with a new HC where he has connections and is able to be with his wife and kids.Corey Tate who was the 17U St. Louis Eagles EYBL head coach. He was also a juco head coach at mineral area. He's a recruiting guy. Ford choose a good one
im sure we would have heard all about it from our ILL NOISE visitors.
At least he didn't end up at MSU or Northwestern.
I know Bob is concerned but I think Illinois will be alright: https://www.google.com/amp/www.chic...frazier-20160821-story,amp.html?client=safari
Yes, you have another very promising class. "If if's and but's were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas.", Don Meredith, modernized from an old proverb, "If if's and and's were pots and pans there would be no work for tinkers hands.", 19th century, unattributed.
Just remember, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and you Illini have been excited for several years now without much result.
Any narrative about the last few years of Illinois basketball that omits key injuries is an inaccurate and self-serving one. In point of fact, not many Illini fans have been excited for the past few years for that very reason (injuries).
Recruiting rankings indeed have the potential to be fools gold. Still... I'd rather have high ones than low. The teams that are usually in the top 20 are generally the same teams winning conference titles and making deep tourney runs.
and failing to mention suspensions by your players is also inaccurate & self-serving...or maybe that doesn't count?..![]()

Suspensions aren't legitimate excuses for failing to perform up to expectations. They are self-inflicted handicaps based on poor decisions either by the coaching staff or the player or both. Additionally, the suspension of players really didn't impact the results nearly as much as injuries did.
The original poster tried to sell the narrative that Illinois has recruited good classes before only to have them under perform because of coaching or overrating of players etc. This is an incomplete narrative (at best) and you know it.
The last time Illinois stacked up a few top 20 classes in a row, they had a pretty good run. I'm hoping we've turned a corner w/r/t recruiting but time will tell.
Any other 4 stars related to Fran?
Well, you guys are the basketball experts...
