Josey Jewell

You sacrafic championships when you live this way. If FSU, Aubrurn, USC, etc live by these values half their team is benched.

Those are the three teams you want to use? USC has been a train wreck, Auburn fell off the map and had horrendous QB problems and I have no doubt their fans thought they played the wrong QB and Florida State had a major chemistry problem two years ago that's why they looked so terrible in the semi finals against Oregon, and early in the year vs suspect competition!?

Rather than be my usual caustic antagonistic self let me add there's about 12 to 14 recruiting Giants. I think we all know who they are so there's no sense rehashing them. Point being only one wins the championhip every year. At any given point in time 5 to 8 of those are absolute train wreck's, The others are typically pretty good and somewhat in the mix. Quite frankly chemistry, cohesion and team play is always the key and of that Nick Saban is an absolute master! I believe there was even article written about the masterfulness of Nick Saban some years back. He is one of the few if not the only coach who seemingly can get the most out of head case players year after year!

I don't believe you and I disagree much and I don’t stick around enough to remember. But you quoted my friend who I purposely avoid (I hope he doesn’t end up with the winning Lotto numbers one day…:)) so here is my thought, not necessarily directed at you…

The 3 biggest lies message board patrons tell themselves…..

1) I’m entitled to my opinion and I’m just telling it how I see it……Yes you are but so is everyone else and they are entitled to tell you that they find you boorish and unenjoyable to be around.

2) It’s not like I affect the team or anyone else…..well in my most polite voice bull^#$. There are all kinds of studies out there about how badly negative attitudes affect their surroundings and infiltrate everything around a business/program. Let’s think about this for a second, player A,B,C is already disgruntled, player A, B, C gets on message board or players family does and viola…So again Bull^%$! Don’t tell me it doesn’t affect anything, it affects everything!!

3) This board would be a boring place if everyone agreed…again I say bull&^$%^. In theory yes that sounds great, but you can disagree and not be a jackwad. Case in point no one likes it when I’m condescending and caustic. Well that’s how you sound and people don’t like it. Learn how to express your dissatisfaction in a better manner. That wouldn’t fly in a boardroom. meeting room, in a study setting, with your employees, with your bosses, etc..

Here is the rub; there are some awesome new studies out there about negativity vs positivity and how “each” rewires you brain to view the entire world with whatever slant becomes the norm for you. It’s cool stuff and has made a dramatic affect on us here at work. Typically if people spent as much time looking at “what” went wrong as opposed to leaping to what we “didn’t do” or “should have done” they’d be more believable.

Finally to my critics, do you really think I do this on accident or it’s my normal state?! If you find me offensives it is by design. I want you to feel like you make other people feel. My wife tells me I can’t police the world and the Truth is it actually affects my attitude at home being around this crap. That’s why I have to leave after a few forays. Because truly its painful….for all of us.

PS...The most informative guys on this site are always the ones who are more pleasant and less reactionary. Not flowers and sunshine, but middle of the road and in control of their attitudes and rhetoric. As you can see, I’m one of the more obnoxious at times, but I am far from alone in my disgust.
Holy shite you gotta be kidding me. The bold part. Got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever read on here. By far. Everything else is pretty dumb too

Edit to include: if this board affects your attitude at home then you have some serious emotional issues and probably some other issues. If what anonymous people on a message board say about your favorite group of teenagers and young 20s affects your attitude then you should really consider deleting your account and seek help from someone who can get you to not change your attitude because of a message board. Wow.....just wow.

This just in if you can't get on a message board and be civil and not scream and yell and denigrate people playing and coaching a child's game u should delete your account....just sayin'

See how easy that was....

Considering Scherff had other p5 offers and was rated one tenth of a point below the 4 star level, he prolly could have racked up a few more..Alot of kids today gain offers from attending alot of these camps. Being from a talent hot bed will increase the chance of being noticed, but attendance/quality performance,at a camp or two, does as well.. I'm not sure how many camps Jewell or the Paulsen's attended..
Scherff got recognized because he had the athleticism to play QB in high school, even in spite of his size. Combine that with how he performed in shot-put and the sort of work ethic he had ... it was a no-brainer that he'd be a high-end recruit. The thing about Scherff's recruitment was that the offers WERE geographically biased. Since he's from western Iowa, it's pretty clear that that influenced where his tape got sent out by his high school coaches.

Another thing that influenced his recruitment was that pretty much anybody who was familiar with the Hoch brothers (out of Harlan High School) would also have been familiar with Scherff. That is likely why both Nebraska and Missouri were onto Scherff.

No doubt Josey's first year he was a RTR 1) Read 2) Think 3) React player making him a step slow. Last year he became a RR 1) Read 2) React player and he played a lot faster.
I don't know about that. Phil Parker stated even prior to the 2014 season that Josey Jewell was a guy who kept on garner their attention from the scout team and whatnot. He was a "natural" instinctive player with a nose for the ball. Jewell didn't really contribute until several games into the season ... but that is because an injury hampered him from playing earlier. Had he not been injured, he likely would have displaced Spearman earlier.

Besides, from what I understand, Coach Reid had some notoriety for handing out huge packets to the LBs in preparation for games. Reid was spoiled with a veteran group of starting LBs in '13 ... guys who knew football and knew how to prep for games. In contrast, it was a far less experienced group in '14 ... and it showed. There is a reason why he changed up his approach in the spring and fall prior to the '15 season ... he focused more on having the guys play "FAST." If they made a mistake ... rather than suffering from paralysis by analysis ... the guys would know that it is better that they make a mistake going 100 mph than making an error due to indecision and/or tentativeness.

From everything that has been reported on Jewell, he's a guy who the other players respond to. There's something about him ... a toughness, an edge ... something that makes others look to him as a leader. Anyhow, I'm happy that he's on our team!
