I went back and watch some of the game and one thing did pop out at me. As big of a man as Luka is, when Kofi went into him....he could move him. But, when Fran inserted Josh O. in for that little stint for Luka Kofi could not move him and subsequently Kofi missed his only shot against him. Now, Josh did pick up a ticky tac foul on the next trip down....but Kofi could not do to him what he did to Luka. If Josh can develop an offense...he could be VERY good for us. What are Josh's measurables?

Possibly some subbing on defense to insert Ogundele on defense might have helped. It didn't look like PMAC or Keegan had much ability to defend or help vs Cockburn.

I guess Iowa's goose was cooked last year when Cockburn and Ayo didn't make the grade for 1st round in NBA draft.

I think Josh O. Will be a solid contributor in 2 years. Could see him with some limited minutes next year 5-10 a game. With little I’ve seen he actually gets up the court better than I thought for his size. Work on trimming off the baby fat get him in better shape think he can be a good player. With getting over late this year he’s been behind the 8 ball. Lot of comparison I’ve read he has a Zach Randolph type of game.

on a similar note in one of the games this weekend they also said when showing keagan. watch out big 10 as he gets stronger and add muscle to his frame he is going to cause even more trouble for opposing teams.

pretty hard to take out NPOY to play a freshman that came in late to school practices and not in playing shape he needs to be in to play in the B1G semi final tournament game against another first team B1G center when that was never the plan for him. Still when Jack got knocked out for the season that’s the hand you were dealt. Maybe going forward in the Tourney Fran will see it a bit differently and play the youngster against a Kofi like player or hopefully against Kofi in championship game, a bit more until he shows he can’t handle it, worst case he gets pulled and Luka gets a couple minutes rest. Next year Hawks will need to make up like 65 points a game assuming Weezy leaves ... going to have to factor that into expectations next year, but that’s next year. Here’s hoping Fran pulls all the right levers this year to get us to the final4 or more

If Josh can give the team a solid 12mins 4ppg and 3.5rpg next year with solid D it will go a long way towards helping Iowa reach the dance again. Still think Fran needs to find a transfer big that can give Iowa another 12-15mins a game of solid play at the 5. Nunge will be a ? next year. Even if he can go 25mpg he's more of a 4 than a 5 especially against certain teams. Nunge is more of a situational 5. He will keed another big body to alongside in many B1G matchups.

That said I also like the idea of small ball with length next year. Ulis, CJ, Weiskamp, Murray, and Nunge would be fun. Insert Toussaint, Perkins, Connor, and Patrick in there as well. Iowa will have a lot of different looks next year.

I was kind of excited for the guy this season. You can't teach size. If you can teach him basketball he can be very good. Definately a project, but sometimes they work out very well. Like Gabe Olaseni.

It will be interesting next year to see what happens to all these centers. Cockburn has to turn pro, Dickinson has to have decent draft stock to think about it, but Garza is the only one for sure who is gonna be done. And I'm sure around the league more are coming in. Nunge is a decent shot blocker on finesse, but he will get bashed to pieces by guys like that both physically and statistically next season playing 30+ a game. In the Big Ten you get to simply muscle people out of your way. When Ogundele committed and I read about him I hoped some day he might be our guy that does the pushing.

I think it was a missed opportunity not to use Josh O more on D against Kofi. Give him that one job; play the best position D you possibly can and foul if you get beat. He could have provided a strategic 7 minutes or so that might have had an effect.

Kofi will probably head to the NBA. Outside of Dickinson I think Nunge will match up reasonably well with the rest of the B10 bigs. While he doesn’t have the bigger base he is quicker and can definitely get off the floor. I hope JO can be a contributor but he has a very long way to go.

No way JO held his own against Kofi, the only men on the planet strong enough for that are already in the NBA. So I've been told.

And Nunge would have been worse. He tossed Garza aside, imagine what he’d do against Nunge.

Idk man, we need him contributing more like 15-20 next year ....Nunge (even if fully recovered and healthy) won’t be able to log Luka type minutes.

If JO isn’t more in shape come Nov (or we don’t snag a decent big transfer) we will be in trouble.

before signing day iowa media all saying same thing. Fran is using last open scholly on a big guy transfer. I’d be shocked if they didn’t. Do this and won’t have to rely on him play more than 8-10 min a night.

More than a 50/50 chance that Kofi returns. He is not projected in the first two rounds. He sees how returning has helped Ayo’s projections.

Kofi is not a real fit for today’s NBA which doesn’t value the post up game. He would probably have been a lottery pick 15-20 years ago.

Next year, the NCAA is going to allow players to make money on their likenesses. Commercials. Attire. Etc. It’s been estimated that a top player will be able to make more in college next year than in the G League.

It will be an interesting call. Why would you expect Kofi to leave when Garza stayed four years? Similar draft statuses at same age.

I know it's tough to lose weight and get into shape, but JO will have had all of this season and another seven months to get the job done before he's needed next season. He's young and that ought to be doable if he's really trying.

He definitely sprinted and he could move, I was surprised! Watching Luka sprinting up and down the court for position I think is rubbing off of Josh.

Same I thought he showed more potential in that 40 seconds than in all the garbage time minutes he’s got. He was ready to bang when he got in, I was surprised.

And still four years of eligibility if he chooses.

What is he going to do to boost his draft status? Develop an outside shot?

Agreed ...people thinking he needs another 18 months to be ready physically to play significant mins are over-indulging the kid. Get your ass to the gym and start a strict dietary program. Seven months is plenty of time. Also, what has he been doing the past 5-6 months ...are the coaches not monitoring his workouts??

I think Fran should have thrown more JO at the big guy...at least use his fouls to wear him down and take him out of his rhythm.
Josh looked to be in much better shape than he was early in the season. That's encouraging for next year.
IOwa won't face too many players like Cockburn, but hopefully Fran has a little more confidence / willingness to play Josh for a few minutes if needed.

Nunge could use some time in the weight room and about 5000 calories a day during the off season

You don't think Kofi fits in the screen and roll heavy NBA?

If Luka had Kofi athleticism he would have been gone after year 2.

I don't think there is a chance in hell he would go undrafted.

Theres nothing physically preventing him from playing a few minutes at a time now in the post.

Hes not that overweight.

Im pretty sure just about any excuse works to be able to play right away anymore.

Just make up some mental issues bs like Carton did.
See my post right above yours. He’s already been granted immediate eligibility once, not going to happen twice.

Where does it say that? Not saying you're wrong because I can't follow these rules that change every year and don't seem to matter anyway.

I thought the coach getting fired is an automatic transfer and eligible right away deal?

I could definitely be wrong though.
