Just a reminder that your AD approved the show..

Your ad approved the halftime show so if he doesn't find it offensive...
Read the script.
I don't speak for everyone here, but I thought that the 'show' was kind of stupid. It screamed of inside joke, and "we've come up with something that is hilarious to us" all over it.

Meaning it was mostly lost on people what exactly was going on. Sometimes artists get lost in the fact that there machinations aren't shared by everyone else.

It was stupid to be honest, and lacked substance. That being said it didn't bother me at all, I kind of felt sorry for them.

From my seats, I couldn't hear the PA voice over well. I heard farmers only jingle, some references to farming, and a cow running around. Seemed like it was some sort of condescending knock on our ag industry.

The pregame was the same way for me, tough to hear, but seemed to be making some sort of political statement on sexism associated with the pink locker room at Kinnick.

My impression, having only been able to hear bits and pieces, was that it was a lot of condescending west coast superiority humor. Reading the script it doesn't seem to be quite what I thought at the time, but it still was highly out of place at the Rose Bowl.

Someone convinced them that running around being as random as possible while also throwing in some actual references was great performance art. Their act like I said before was something that was the product of them coming up with ideas, thinking they were awesome, and then just going with it. It's sort of an arrogant trait on their part in thinking that their bad jokes are somehow going to be greeted with the same sort of enthusiasm from everyone else. Not because they were offensive in my opinion, but because they were just not good.

Pretty sure the Rose Bowl committee approves the band's halftime shows. Not sure why you think Gary Barta would have anything to do with it.

So you're saying that they are like every marching band.

Gary Barta isn't exactly liked around these parts, so not a surprise.

'Around what parts' would that be ??
Please don't make us guess on that.

Barta deserves a RAISE if anything. Most whiner Hawkeyes didn't think the
Hawks would be in any bowl, let alone the ROSE BOWL.

Carry on

100% agreed. The only thing I find offensive, is that they thought this is what people think is humorous. Trying way to hard and it didn't make sense, but the band was by far not the most embarrassing on the field. If Iowa would have won or not even gotten blown out, no one would have cared. Just trying to retract the performance on field.

Also, nothing can be worse than Rick Mounts halftime performance.

I'm trying to recall what the cow reference was about. The whole thing was pretty dumb but I knew about their act from previous years. I was just shaking my head at what I did hear.

Everything about their band reminded me of two things. First, the South Park where they tell Stan he is not non-conforming right. Second, the movie Waiting, where the new waiter loses it at the end and screams at Ryan Reynolds about being edgy.

I had absolutely no problem with it, and found it humorous (on a sad, not-funny day) to watch so many, likely farmers/wives, get completely frothed over about it.

It wasn't overly clever, it wasn't that funny, it took obvious pot shots ... but I certainly didn't find it offensive. Maybe the most surprising thing was that I couldn't even really hear it, and I was 30 rows up in one of the closes sections to the field. All I could hear is their drums, nothing really else.

Even more ironic is all of the people yelling (and later posting) that the Stanford band is using silly stereotypes and extrapolating unfairly to the entire state ... while calling them drug-smoking hippie commies.

Barta deserves a raise because Iowa got to the rose bowl? Bartas role in it, if you can call it a role, consisted of knowing that he would never fire Kirk... so praying that Kirk would succeed.

Hey troll, why are you still here? I know you're lonely with no friends, but your hanging around here is really strange.

Did they make a political statement about the pink locker room?? That would suprise me, because stanford is conservative, versus Berkeley's liberalism. And if i may make an over-generalized (but accurate) statement: liberals are offended by the pink locker room, conservatives are not.

After decades of hating the same old teams, I find it refreshing to find a new team to detest. Last night, I watched Stanford lose a basketball game by one point to a Colorado team that scored 2 points in the final 10 minutes. Sweet.

according to these stats <8% of the employed population in Iowa is a farm operator and approximately 15% are either a farm operator or in a related field. I'm willing to bet the stereotype of the drug-smoking hippie commie extrapolates at a higher rate to the SMUT than 15%...

In the ten U.S. states with the highest number of milk cows, as of January 2014 and 2015, California is #1. Nowhere in that top 10 is Iowa.

Admitting I didn't see the show so can't speak to its intent but it is my vast experience that people who get offended by what depicts their culture are unhappy people. Aside from them kicking our heads in during rose bowl can't think of a single complaint about the character of Stanford. My hunch is some of u need to chill a bit

Your perception of California is clearly off the wall. Not all parts of California are the same, besides the drought being over blown. Crime isn't an issue in more than 90 percent of the state that has 33 million documented people.

If it's so great there, why do you spend so much time on an Iowa message board? Tell me, what sort of strange satisfaction do you get from being an internet troll?

Lol as someone who was born and raised in Iowa, but now lives in California some of you guys are idiots

I honestly couldn't tell. I heard hyper masculine, something about how tough pink can be, and pink locker rooms. It seemed to be some knock on the perception of pink being a feminine color, but like I said, tough to hear.

I dont know why you would. Better quality of living by far.
This is not intended to be a flame, but I'm curious to know if you or any of your friends are homeowners, and if so, what % of gross monthly income you pay for your mortgage?

We live in Omaha (not Iowa but close) and currently pay about 13% of gross income. 15-year fixed (3.5% APR). House built in 2001, one of better school districts in the state, comfortably houses family of four.

I have preconceptions of Cali, but no actual data, so I'm curious where we fall relative to people's situations out there. Again, just wondering. Thanks.

Everyone these days is some hyper sensitive dainty little flower that cries foul if they are ever the slightest bit offended. Lighten up. Given the history of Stanfords band, I'd be more offended if they didn't poke fun at us.
I was there and I enjoyed watching and listening to their band.

The Stanford band made everybody furious at the Rose Bowl for the 3rd time in 4 years
By Rodger Sherman@rodger_sherman on Jan 4, 2016, 10:05a 638

College football's greatest tradition.

In 2013, Stanford went to the Rose Bowl, and its band made people upset.

In 2014, Stanford went to the Rose Bowl, and its band made people upset.

In 2016, Stanford went to the Rose Bowl, and guess what happened!

The college and state must be very proud.

I read the script and more importantly, all the comments were negative towards the Stanford band. I read approx 20 comments. I also read who approves the script:
"Now,Stanford Athletics has approval/veto power over Band scripts. So sometimes the scripts just come out lame because the good stuff has been taken out". It also said the bands' trips are reviewed by the AD/administration. I also found searching that the other and final approval for showcasing halftime bands is the Rose Bowl committee.

I found nothing about Barta or UI approving the band's script. Please provide your source.

It is unclear who you are calling idiots. But if you are calling people idiots because they have a different preference than you, regarding where they would rather live... Then you are an idiot.

Strange response to my comment is very strange. I dont understand your point, and you clearly didnt understand mine. I simply made an observation. What does iowa city being liberal have to do with what i said?

???

Cant figure out what you took from my post, but here is a summary of my point:

Stanford = conservative.

UC Berkely = liberal.

It would suprise me if Stanford was offended by the pink locker room.

It would not suprise me if Berkely was offended by the pink locker room.

Iowa City = nothing to do with my point.
