Lol as someone who was born and raised in Iowa, but now lives in California some of you guys are idiots
Born in Iowa, spent 20 years as a young adult in Bay Area and now 15 back in Iowa. As to stereotypes, dope smoking, hippie commies go to Cal. Smug, entitled, arrogant, wealthy kids go to Stanford. Might explain the bands attitude?
Quality of life? Brought my family back to Iowa. Nuf said.
Speaking of bad band behavior, I was at the Cal/Stanford game (pure hate between those schools) several years ago and a Cal band member dropped to his hands and knees behind the Tree while two others trucked him from the front . Best hit of the day. The Tree was down on the sidelines for several minutes.

Ugh if Iowa fans are still whining about the Stanford band, then STFU. We could have made all of our points by not responding. It was unfunny and poorly crafted up until the point when Iowa fans reacted and then it was validated. It was still unfunny and poorly crafted, but we made it make sense. These Stanford people are the shunned of the best and brightest, and they came up with an inaccurate agricultural slam about Iowa. It'd be benign and still unfunny if we hadn't reacted.

You would think a school like Stanford would have researched cows if they wanted to make fun of Iowa. A Holstein is so far down the list of Iowa cows. Maybe it was leftover from when they played Wisconsin-- that would have made more sense. Still pretty lazy.

They're not interested in the difference between dairy and beef. It was an unfunny joke that was validated by the reaction of Iowa fans. If it had been ignored, good. It would have gone down as it should have.

First off, the pregame Stanford band show was about the locker rooms (they spelled "Locker Shocker" on the field), and it was fairly funny, although the story they told was basically that Iowa was misogynist for painting the locker rooms pink. The real reason Fry painted them pink was that it was soothing and he thought it would relax the other team (and, it created a distraction for the opposing team coaches).

The halftime show looked bad live, because it was hard to hear the PA and all you saw was a cow running around. It definitely looked like it was making fun of farmers. Once I read the script online, I was way less offended than when I was at the game. The script is actually pretty funny.

Last point: this whole "California sucks, no Iowa sucks" argument is just dumb. I lived in Iowa City for the first 20 or so years of my life and have lived in California for the next 20 or so. Both are great. Both are very different. There are smart people in each place, there are also lots of dumb people in each. Both have advantages (Cali: weather; Iowa: cost of living) an disadvantages (Calif: cost of living; Iowa: weather . . . in February). Anyone who thinks California is just horrible, or that Iowa is just horrible . . . is, well, just horrible!

^ Can we at least agree Stanford fans are horrible? I saw a lot of 30-50 year old fans who behaved a whole lot like their band.

I sat in the Stanford section. There were four drunk a-holes behind me who were about as annoying as I've ever encountered. Then again, the folks sitting next to me were very friendly, as were most everyone else in my section.

am in the only iowa fan that knows of stanford as 'the farm' and thought it was just a nod to both schools?

didn't find it offensive at all. could barely hear the PA person, and when i did, it was childish goofiness. and i have to admit, wasn't aware that farmersonly had a jingle.

We were sitting in a section that was half and half. The jerk in front of me was taunting us the entire game. He wasn't the worst one we encountered.

You know our Rose Bowl showing was pathetic when some fans are still holding onto the Stanford halftime show. Who freaking cares!? It's was a halftime show ... Stanford wouldn't be the first organization to think "cows" and "ag" when thinking of Iowa ... It's over. The show happened... Nobody was harmed ... Time to move on ... :)

This is my feeling too. If Iowa would have won the game or it would have been close, no one would have cared about it. Since Iowa lost, everyone needed something to be upset about, especially at halftime. Unless you are a farmer and truly upset by this, I don't know why it is still being discussed with such fake outrage.

I dont know why you would. Better quality of living by far.
Lol, if you think California is a better quality of living, you have a lot to learn about life! People are everything. Californians are lame and suck for the most part. Honestly, other than the southern states, I'd rather live anywhere but Cal. And I do!

Maybe someday you'll find a way to not have to live in Cal but I kind of hope you're stuck there for the rest of your life. Don't move and ruin the rest of the world!
