Just Saw Xavier Foster Riding The Pine On The SMU Bench

I took a little bit of a beating on the board when I said XF was not going to be a difference maker in college. And yes I obviously wanted him to commit at the time because that level of recruit is rare for Iowa. But just watching him in high school, it was obvious the work ethic was not there. Add in the off-court issues and here we are.

Hate to see talent wasted though. Hopefully he ends up somewhere he can play and be productive.

SMU is terrible. If he can’t play there he should move to D2.

I always thought the same thing. I would have chosen Cole Henry over him in a heartbeat.

Call me crazy, but IF Foster wanted to transfer again (which seems likely), I would have absolutely no issue with Fran taking a waiver on him. Our front court is going to be a MONUMENTAL question mark next year. Character issues, work ethic aside, athletic 7-footers don't come around often.

I know Foster said he wanted to move out of state, but maybe Iowa is the best place for him when its all said and done. Plus I trust Fran to squeeze the most juice he can out of a player like Foster

That being said, who knows if XF already burned his bridges with the Iowa program . . .

A guy playing 2 minutes at smu? No thanks.

Fran isn't squeezing much out of Mulvey and JO, don't need a third guy sitting next to them.

Granted Henry hasn’t produced much at UNI but I would’ve agreed at the time.

The best dunk I’ve seen in a high school game in person was when I reffed Osky and Henry drove his man baseline and spun around into a reverse dunk. /csb

I saw Foster at the state tourney in DSM a few years back. All four of us agreed he has a long way to go to be a productive Div 1 talent. Yea, he was tall. But he was soft. I think one of his teammates looked better than him. I’m not surprised of his path to SMU and the bench ….

With a combination of positive and negative reinforcement plus some reward and punishment strategies not excluding small electric shocks etc could he still become a good player?
