** The Official FSU @ SMU Gameday Thread **

@goldmom stirred comedic memories of Johnny Carson with
her reference to Funk and Wagnall's porch. Thank You.

As Carnac the Magnificent, a mystic from the East, he could
divine answers to questions sealed in envelopes. These had
been hermitically sealed in a mayonnaise jar on Funk and
Wagnall's porch.

It occurred to me that the reference may go over the heads of some of the children (or foreign bots) we have on this board. 😂

Does this signal the end of long term (10 years) contracts ?
It should signal no longer working with Sexton as an agent. We continue to get bent over by this guy. You also have to wonder how much interest Bama really had in Norvell last year. Starting to feel like it wasn’t much, but obviously leveraged heavily in the extension.

Nolecast Bud Elliot Sunday night delayed reaction video…..he has been the most consistent voice about the lack of talent, non-existent high school recruiting and poor coaching at multiple position groups

10 thoughts on FSU's loss to SMU

The talent level on this team is simply not very good - especially on offense. There's not a single guy on that side of the ball who is a surefire NFL player; at best, there are a couple who might get invited to a free agent camp (maybe Toafili because he's potentially a 3rd down back, possibly Washington because he's mediocre at about every position so could serve as a backup at several different spots which saves a roster spot). I can't think of anyone else who will even get a 2nd look from the NFL. Obviously, some of the young guys could develop into good players, but if they can't win playing time over the garbage that we're trotting out every week, they have a looooooooong way to go.
Defensively, there are a few guys who will likely get drafted, but likely not until middle to late rounds.

There are only a couple of guys who were important players who are back this year - a safety and a DE who was the 2nd best DE on the roster. Every important player from last year is in the NFL now

Exactly this. I said it last year at the snub, FSU doesn't have a lot of depth after the NFL talent. They left, the offseason was a miss in the Portal and not a lot of development has occurred over the years. This points to there might be some truth to what Dabo is saying, even if we don't like the messenger.

But lack of depth also showed during the bowl game. The cupboard was empty and still is.

Not sure, but look at that abysmal OL. It's like, "DUDE! You've got ONE job!" JT made his OL look serviceable. DJU needs an NFL-caliber line to have time to stand there and gun it.

I refuse to go back and watch any of the old games this season. But as I watched SMU, Byers #63 was bad. He was early season ranked 3rd best lineman with a rating = Jeremiah Byers - 84 But he was getting hustled by SMU on Saturday, a lot.
TN has a rating / ranking that makes us look BBBAAAADDDD..

They are all rating as backup (as a combined), meaning we don't have any starting level Lineman... Whattheeverloving****???

Norvell needs to make bigger mid-season changes that just having Glenn be a costarter.... FSU stole one from Cal, I can see losing the rest of the games at this point.

And people think having this same coach create a winning staff at FSU is going to happen?
This same coach put together a staff and team that went 13-0, so he has proven he can turn things around. He and his staff won at Memphis as well. Not saying it will happen, but certainly possible.

Do you think it’s a good move to give him $65 MM to go away, and then having to go “bargain” shopping for the next coach (and staff)?

Sure. It's not my money. What do I care? It's not like it hasn't neen done. Nebraska had 3 coaches on the payroll at the same time a few years ago. 😃
