An argument was made that Cornell(the closest other than OkState) has been as good as Iowa at these weights during Brands' time running Iowa. Here is the numbers side by side:

No doubt that Koll has done a great job down low. But, Iowa under Brands has been outstanding at 125 and 133.

------------Iowa Under Brands:--------------------------------------------Cornell under Koll during same time:
07:125-Falck 8th-133-Galanakis(2-2)R16---------------------125-Nickerson 3rd-133-Frey (1-2)
08:125-Falck 6th-133-Slaton 2nd-------------------------------125-Rodriguez (2-2) R16-133-Grey 6th
09:125-Falck (3-2) R12-133-Dennis 7th-----------------------125-Nickerson 1st-133-Grey(3-2) R12
10:125-McDonough 1st-133-Dennis 2nd----------------------125-Nickerson 4th-133-Grey(3-2) R12
11:125-McDonough 2nd-133-Ramos R12--------------------125-Perrelli (1-2)-133-Grey 6th
12:125-McDonough 1st-133-Ramos 3rd----------------------125-Perrelli 4th-133-Arujau (1-2)
13:125-McDonough R12-133-Ramos 2nd--------------------125-Garrett 3rd-133-DNQ
14:125-Clark 5th-133-Ramos 1st-------------------------------125-Garrett 2nd-133-Grey (3-2) R12
15:125-Gilman 4th-133-Clark 2nd------------------------------125-Garrett 5th-133-Grey (1-2)
16:125-Gilman 2nd-133-Clark 2nd-----------------------------125-Macri (2-2) R16-133-Garrett 1st
17:125-Gilman 3rd-133-Clark 1st------------------------------125-DNQ-133-Grey (2-2)

For Iowa at 125: They had 9 AA finishes out of 11, with the other 2 both making the R12. Of those 9, 6 were top 4 finishes with 4 Finals appearances and 2 Champs.

For Cornell at 125: They had 7 AA finishes out of 11, with none of the other 4 making R12 and 1 of those being a DNQ. Of the 7, all were top 5, with 2 Champs and a Runner-up.

For Iowa at 133: They had 9 AA's out of 11 again, with the other 2 being R16 and R12. Of those 9, 8 were top 3 with 7 Finalists and 2 Champs.

For Cornell at 133: They had 3 AA's out of 11, with the others, except 1 DNQ, all winning a match or 2 and 3-R12s. Of the 3 AA's, they had 2-6th's and 1 Champ.

To sum it up, as good as Cornell was during that time frame(it really is impressive) they were not even close to Iowa.

It is in a thread about Lee making a mistake choosing Iowa. The above stats alone, show where his chances to succeed are best.

PSU has been otherworldly at the middle-upperweights for some time now. But, Iowa IS the team at the lightweights!

MN can be in the discussion with Cornell.

07: 125-Ness 5th, 133-Reiter 2-2.
08: 125-Ness 2nd, 133-Reiter 5th.
09: 125-Sanders 6th, 133-Ness 3rd.
10: 125-Sanders 5th, 133-Ness 1st.
11: 125-Sanders 5th, 133-Thorn 2-2.
12: 125-Sanders 3rd, 133-Dardanes 4th.
13: 125-Thorn 7th, 133-Dardanes 6th.
14: 125-DNQ, 133-Thorn 5th.
15: 125-Lizak r12, 133-Dardanes 4th.
16: 125-DNQ,133-DNQ
17: 125-Lizak 2nd, 133-McKee r12.

Points per place:

MN

Doubt anyone will really respond. The stats are irrefutable.

Another way to look at it:

Iowa has 18 out of 22 possible AA finishes. Of those 11 were Finalists with 4 Champs.
Minnesota has 15 out of 22. Of those 3 were Finalists and 1 was a Champ.
Cornell has 10 out of 22. Of those 4 were Finalists with 1 Champ.
OkState has 9 out of 22. Of those 4 were Finalists with 2 Champs.
Sanderson's teams under this same time period were 9 out of 22. Of those 3 were Finalists with 1 Champ.

You meant middle weights. Cael and Brandsx2 have equally futile at coaching the upper weights. Here are the last the last 12 years:

MN......................................1,1,1,1,2,7,7,8,7
Okie St................................2,3,2,3,6
OH St...................................8,2,1,1
IA..........................................5,4,7,5,4,5

You missed an AA for Iowa at 197

He also missed 184 as an upperweight imo, as it probably doesn't support the claim. Minny has been great at heavy and 197, so I'll give them that..

125 - 141
149 - 174
184 - 285

That's how I like to break it down.

Agreed. That is why I said middle-upper. From 149-197, PSU has had a crazy amount of Finalists and Champs.

PSU under Sanderson from 149-197:

32 AA finishes out of 48 chances. 3-3rds, 9-2nds and 15-1sts.

We've always known this, but thanks for the numbers
