This is HROT. A $50,000,000 dollar bet would be meager enough, or 50,000,000 speech.
Of course he will nominate someone. Getting the nomination through the Senate might not be so easy.
Where in the Constitution does it say the Senate can drag something out for 9 months for partisan reasons. The Supreme Court has been a mixed bag for all presidents, but it is their right to nominate, and the job of the Senate to decide if they are fit to sit on the bench. It shouldn't be as hard as it has become.
Remember, President Bush wanted to nominate Harriet Miers, so don't get too full of yourself by saying Obama would pick a bad judge.
President Bush did nominate Miers and then withdrew her name 3 weeks later because of the feces-storm response.
LOL, so the Senate can block and tackle when a Republican is in the White House, but it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL for the Senate to do that when a Democrat is in the White House....

Seriously.....anyone with common sense knows that our Douche Bag POTUS will find the most Lefty wacko possible to nominate. Probably will be a good Lawyer with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Or better yet nominate himself. This is very serious that we get a level headed nominee. But I don't expect that from Obama.

Other than Bork what nominee did the Democrats block? For the record Bork's shameful involvement during Watergate precluded him from being on the Supreme Court, so we won't agree there.

If Obama nominates someone he'll likely nominate someone who he thinks will make it through the Senate. They will likely lean left, but doubtful he nominates someone who is a far lefty.
Also the GOP would be wise to remember that if they filibuster an Obama nominee, the Democrats will have no problem filibustering a Republican nominee should a Republican win the White House.

After Bork was "Borked," Reagan nominated Douglas Ginsburg, but he was "Borked" when it became known that he smoked marijuana while at Harvard.

Obama undoubtedly has a list of candidates already. I assume all presidents have a list. Obama will knock off the far left candidates and go middle of the road. I think he will go for someone who has already been approved by the Senate. Very hard for the Senate to vote against someone who has been approved of during the last few years.
The political angle will be intense. The Senate could flip to the Democrats, and this is now a huge issue to voters in November. Who do you want picking justices?
My bets on potential nominees - Judges Denny Chin (2d Cir.), Sri Srinivasan (D.C. Cir.), or Diane Wood (7th Cir.). My money is on Judge Srinivasan.
I certainly hope so. Obama shouldn't even try to replace him.
Judge Srinivasan was unanimously approved by the senate a few years ago. Would be strange if they didn't now.

Those are notable candidates, and Wood's name has been thrown around before when Souter retired. She may be a little too far out on the spectrum to be confirmed. Chin and Srinivasan were born in other countries, so they have compelling life stories about coming to the US and succeeding.
One notable thing a lot of people have clamored for is putting judges on from outside the Ivy League. Srinivasan has a JD from Stanford, and Wood received her JD from Texas.
Obama has almost a year left in his term. It has never taken more than 6 months to fill a vacancy before.
LOL, Srinivasan sailed through his hearing on an 18-0 vote and was confirmed by the Senate 97-0...less than three years ago. Good luck selling the idea he's unfit for the SC.
