You have to play through them. The clutch/grab/push are fouls or should be called fouls. That's part of the problem. They aren't called fouls enough in the Big Ten!

Agree - until Frederick gets back he and Garza are really the only consistent outside options. When Garza is down low there will be no reason to not have JW guarded outside of the 3 point line.Teams are guarding him better knowing he is just about the lone outside scoring option.
From what I saw in the game, and I replayed it, Joe got poked in the eye, he was grabbed, his shot was off, and when he drove to the basket for a layup, it didn't even draw iron. He was getting fatigued. I wonder if maybe he had a bug to go along with the shooting woes. He grabbed the 8 rebounds though tying Garza. Got a feeling his shot will be there Thursday.I'm not sure if he's physically strong enough to, that's part of the problem. He a finesse type player
I was watching him closely for a couple of times. The ball was getting dribbled at the top of the key with screens and they were looking inside for Garza. So Joe was just standing in the corner area. I really don't think the point guards are looking to hit him on cuts or screens very often. We are VERY focused on getting the ball inside.
I also don't think the coaching is very good at getting guys open outside. Even with Jok there were times we couldn't get him open. They need to look at Indiana when Alford played there. They ran him off 2 or 3 screens all the way around the outside and then hit him in the corner when he got a little window.
Some of this is just stunning. Complaining about not being able to get guys open despite having no real penetrating guards that anyone is not recognizing reality. Iowa has had a Top 10 offense in terms of efficiency all year. Fran can be criticized for many things, not knowing how to run offense or get guys open is not one of them. This is not hard to understand. The reason that Wieskamp had a lot of trouble against Indiana and Minnesota is primarily due to Iowa having only 2 players that opposing defenses have to pay any attention to. Literally opponents now go into game begging that anyone other than Wieskamp or Garza take a 3. Iowa is just going to be plain ugly on offense until Frederick returns. The current rotation without Frederick just isn't good enough to be very good on offense. Teams can shade their entire defense on the perimeter toward Wieskamp. And have everyone on the perimeter (other than Wieskamp's man) be able to crash the post when Garza gets the ball. Garza continuing as he has just shows how great he has been.
Offenses cannot run like they did when Alford played at Indiana. The shot clock was 45 seconds then instead of 30. Guys playing defense today are more multi-positional, meaning more switching on screens away from the ball. With that, the shot clock, and a bit more physicality allowed away from the ball, there is a reason that no player like Alford exists anymore in college hoops. Big scorers have to be able to do something off the dribble and create something, they don't get to just run off screens.
If he’d show some hustle on the court he wouldn’t. Show some hustle and get in the flow of the game maybe those misses become points.
