During the pursuit, authorities said Medina “intentionally” struck the police vehicle that Roxi was in, causing it to crash into a concrete wall.
The deputy who was driving was treated at the scene and Roxi was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital where she later died.
“Roxi was a true hero who dedicated her life to protecting and serving. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched and the hearts she protected,” Cordero-Stutz said.
Medina, along with Julio Flores were taken into custody after a brief struggle, according to authorities. Both are convicted felons.
Deputies seized 12 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 1,411 grams of marijuana, 90 boxes of THC cartridges, 678 grams of marijuana edibles, $8,525 in cash and a firearm from the vehicle.
