Kaden Wetjen (Preferred Walk On; Could play in 2025) is faster than Cooper DeJean. Chad Leistikow & Scott Dochterman Discuss the WR Room

Is Wetjen the fastest player on the team this year? Definitely a great replacement for Cooper. He's got that fearlessness and quick acceleration that all good returners need.
I think yes. Kaden and Cooper, for some reason I think X frequently raced and Kaden edged Cooper and bother were a little faster at X, who is very fast.

He's like Tim Dwight Lite. And I say Lite not as an insult, but because Dwight was that damn good. At everything.

So everybody keeps saying walk on, but every story points to his arrival three years ago. I highly doubt he's not on a ride this season. Anyone actually know something without just posting something which points back to when he got to Iowa?

I guess I knew something! Go up 4 posts, where I posted the tweet that follows.

Tyler is a Register beat writer. You are incorrect! As you can see, Wetjen is not on scholarship; he's not a walk on; he's a PREFERRED walk on. ;)

Let me explain. The way I"M reading all these articles about him is that he CAME to Iowa as a PWO (three years ago) and now is the nations leading return man. I don't see anything in these articles stating that he is not currently on scholarship. In the same way that headline said he had "no offers coming out of high school", the headline doesn't mention he got an offer from Umass before he took the PWO at Iowa. I really don't know. I'm just saying I've never seen anything saying he isn't now. It would be REALLY unusual for a third year player at Iowa who they knew would be the main return guy ad on the depth chart as WR to NOT be on scholarship in year three...

good question; i tried to look at the article but I ran out of free articles ;)
Exactly because its behind a paywall. Whats in the headline is that he CAME to Iowa as a PWO. Not arguing that. We knew that. I don't think he still is a PWO, which is why I asked if there was somewhere that confirms he was not on a scholarship to start THIS season. I'm not buying that....

The headline, which sounds like the current situation, is this:

Kaden Wetjen, a 5-foot-10 preferred walk-on who didn't have any FBS scholarship offers in high school, is now one of the top returners in college football.

Look I'm not trying to be argumentative. I still read that as he WAS a walk on who didn't have any offers. Thats not conclusive in anyway. If anyone is a paid HB member they should be able to go an the site and check out scholarship distribution for 2024. It should list all the current scholarship players. I don't have that access. I tried to do this on the 247 site (rivals) which lists each years distribution. Unfortunately I saw about 30 mistakes on there for this season alone so its worthless even looking at that. They didn't have ANY of the guys who came back listed, and had guys like Dan Doering and Justice Sullivan and others who haven't even been on the team for a couple of years listed as scholarships for this season. They also had the punter Dakin listed on the 2023 list. It was a joke....
