Based on the hail mary in the ISU game, I'd say that deep passing isn't going to be a big part of this offense any time soon....Speaking of this, are we going to throw a deep pass at all this year?

Makes some sense. When it looked like Brown was open against MN and Cade sailed it on him, they showed Cade screaming about something. Wonder if even though Brown was open, he ran the route incorrectly which is why Cade missed him so badly.Tim Lester on Kaleb Brown: "There have been times we've tried to get him the ball and he hasn't run the route we need him to.... When he's on time, moving the ball is natural."
RVZ has done ok, but has had 3-4 drops since the first game.I would argue RVZ in his very short collegiate career has already made more game changing plays than KB.
Thus needing to run some draws throughout the game. When the opposing QB isn’t a threat to run the defensive line doesn’t have to be as disciplined in its rush lanes and can take more risks and get up field further and work back to the QB. They also can rush inside moves more because they know they can retrace back once the QB is flushed because he’s probably not fast enough to make them pay.
You really want to believe that, but with respect to the passing game over the past 4 years, the Iowa staff hasn't really earned the benefit of the doubt yet. It's entirely possible that the coaches know what they are doing, at least some of the time.
Watch the Lester interview if you want the answer.Where is he? Is he in Kirk's dog house? There's no way he fell off this much. He's a game changer.
People forget that this is a brand new system with all new reads and routes based of those reads. If the coach can't trust you to run the right route, it is going to limit your time on the field.Watch the Lester interview if you want the answer.
Synopsis...he's having issues running the correct routes (requires reads in Lesters offense). Lester said he's coming along and wants to include him more.

OSU —> Iowa —-> UAB
Oof.
Yes, we get it, our passing attack is bad.UAB has a much better passing attack
Iowa yards per game 131
UAB yards per game 261
to me, he's upgrading
When football becomes an individual sport rather than a team sport, I'll agree with you. Until then, not so much.UAB has a much better passing attack

We would kill UAB. They suck. When football becomes an individual sport rather than a team sport, I'll agree with you. Until then, not so much.
He was catching balls (and dropping them) with his body as a college WR. He just wasn't that good.UAB has a much better passing attack

What do you think Iowa would do to the competition UAB faces? Yes, even their passing game would improve dramatically.UAB has a much better passing attack

They also scored 38 points against Troy. They didn't need to be able to throw the ball. I understand the passing attack is awful - just don't try to compare the competition. Iowa could have thrown the ball more against Troy if it chose to do so.doubtful
we managed to get a whooping 178 yards on Troy
Iowa passing attack is a joke regardless of the opponent
Sounds like every Iowa WR of recency outside of Gill. Iowa has not had a legit WR coach in quite some time.He was catching balls (and dropping them) with his body as a college WR. He just wasn't that good.
Vander Zee catches with his hands.Sounds like every Iowa WR of recency outside of Gill. Iowa has not had a legit WR coach in quite some time.
Vanderzee had 14 receptions this year, 5 of which came against Illinois state, I wouldn't base anything on this, and it doesn't argue the point that Iowa needs a legit WR coach.Vander Zee catches with his hands.
Oddly, #7 had the same issue for 3+ years. What could possibly be the constant?TBF noodle has about 2.8 seconds to throw as well.
He only played in 6 games. He displayed excellent potential for the future.Vanderzee had 14 receptions this year, 5 of which came against Illinois state, I wouldn't base anything on this, and it doesn't argue the point that Iowa needs a legit WR coach.
Actually it was the eighth game he was injured in. The point remains, he is an excellent prospect. He only played in 6 games. He displayed excellent potential for the future.
Again, the comment was based on receivers catch the ball with their bodies, it is a common feature of Iowa WRs.He only played in 6 games. He displayed excellent potential for the future.
Some people consider winnning to be even more important.doubtful

Thank goodness Iowa didn’t play ULM, powerhouse UAB could only muster 167 passing yards. Iowa May have ended up with negative yards against ULM.doubtful
