Kaleb Johnson (1st Round pick?), Tyler Elsbury, Yahya Black & their NFL Draft prospects

Always seemed like the OL clicked a little better when Elsbury was in.

Sounds like we may have underutilized him.

Imagine that...

I thought the same thing. They played better as a unit when he subbed in at center due to injury.
Agree with these. Elsbury seemed to play better than whomever he was replacing (Jones, Stephens usually). Not saying he was necessarily better than those two overall, but with the OL struggles we dealt with for years it seems like we could have used him more than we did....

I guess I never understood this. Anyone could see that we always improved when Elsbury played instead of Logan Jones. It wasn't close. I keep seeing coaches sing the praise of Jones and I keep wondering (and now seem to have NFL scouts agreeing) how Jones EVER played ahead of Elsbury. I just hope we finally get to see some version of the Logan Jones the coaches all claim we have. I haven't seen it up till now.

Really?
I disagree.

Vikings are talking about getting younger/cheaper at RB and KJ's name has come up with several talking heads. Last year the first RB came off the board in round 2 but only one taken that round. There were 3 taken in round 3.

Running backs are a dime a dozen in the NFL. I would be surprised if KJ went in the first round. I see him maybe a late 2nd but more likely a 3rd round pick.
RB's aren't a dime a dozen, the NFL offenses are changing back to run oriented schemes. We spread you out 4 wide and you bring in smallish DB's, we're going to pound the rock. Look at the last 8 teams left in the playoffs, all very capable of smashing you, with the exception of (maybe) WAS. All with relatively mobile QB's. Times are a changing, I could see KJ going in the 1st.

Especially if the Cowgirls don’t get Jeanty, teams might start panicking and end up with 3 RB’s in the 1st round. Can’t remember the last time that happened, Barkley and Henry are changing that.

I am a fan of Elsbury. I think that the coaching staff felt that Jones had a higher ceiling than Elsbury at center. I think that when Jones enters the NFL draft next year, he is going to test out like a freak and will draw comparisons to Tyler Linderbaum and Cam Juergens because of his athletic traits.

But I thought that Elsbury might have been a better college center than Jones in Jones' first 2 years of starting. He seemed to be more comfortable with shotgun snaps. I was hoping for that Elsbury would win the starting job at center, and Jones would move to guard. I would love for Elsbury to carve out a solid NFL career for himself.

I thought that Jones was very solid this year. Obviously there have been a lot of arguments on this board over the last couple months about how good this OL is. I think that it is clearly a better run blocking OL than a pass blocking OL. And I think that is also true for Jones. He is a better run blocker than pass blocker. But I thought he was solid at both.

Good work on these my friend. As a beleaguered Viking fan we need help at BOTH interior OL and RB - love to land one of our own.
Would like to see the vikes trade out of the first, grab a second and a third. Pick up KJ with one of those iol with the other and Elsbury with a 5th rd. Never gonna happen though.

Doubt he goes first round...he has about 4-5 backs rated ahead of him.

Are they? I hear that all the time because the focus has changed but then I see a player like Saquon Barkley and how he changed the Eagles offense. How he carried them in certain games and how e changed other games to the benefit of the Eagles. I would agree that average running backs are a dime a dozen, but exceptional running backs make a massive difference.

How many truly elite running backs are in the NFL? Barkley, Henry, Gibbs, Robinson and probably Taylor. That is why I say running backs are a dime a dozen. Shelf life is fairly short as well. I just hope Johnson goes to a team that is mainly a zone blocking, one cut scheme that has a really good o-line.

“ relatively mobil”…. My ass! Mahomes, Allen, Daniels and Hurts are are bit more than “relatively mobile” NFL qbs…add Jackson to this mix and that’s 20% of The League that have and extra running back in the backfield, as it were. That extra runner puts a lot of stress on most NFL defenses.
Now the way I see it, this trend of mobil qbs will lessen the value of RBs in the NFL and lower their draft value to lower rounds. It might increase the value of OL personnel however. (Keep the qb healthy!)
