Iowa hosts Kansas State in a three game series this weekend.

Friday - 6pm - CJ Eldred
Saturday - 2pm - Ryan Erickson
Sunday - 1pm - Calvin Mathews

Iowa hasn't had much luck against KSU as far as I remember. They have beat Iowa six times in a row since 2013.

Iowa will face a lefty on Friday, then right handed pitchers the rest of the weekend as far as starters go. Iowa is 4-10 vs left handers.

It looks like weather could be a factor on Saturday and Sunday

Iowa loses to Kansas State 3-2

Once again Iowa can do basically nothing against a lefty.

Peyton was a homerun short of the cycle, however his extra base hits came with nobody on base.

Moriel had a solo homerun and an RBI groundout.

Iowa beats Kansas State 2-1 in game two.

On offense, Iowa scored a run in the 2nd on a 2-out Tyler Peyton single and then Joel Booker hit a solo homerun in the 7th.

Ryan Erickson started for Iowa, but he was not sharp today. Erickson went two innings giving up 2 hits, walked 3, and one run. Nick Gallagher came in and once again had a fantastic outing. Gallagher pitched seven scoreless innings allowing two hits, and hit one batter. Gallagher had five strikeouts and only got in a little jam once in the 7th. He also got Iowa out of two men on and zero outs in the 3rd. Gallagher has been excellent as of lately.

Iowa/K-State are supposed to play another game today, but rain is in the area.

Iowa loses game three 4-2 and loses the series

The good news is this was not a conference series.

The bad news is Iowa had no offense again this weekend.

So with that being said, Iowa is 7-8 in the B1G while Ohio State is 8-7 after sweeping Purdue. I think at this point Iowa HAS to win the Ohio State series if they want a viable path to the B1G tournament. If they lose the series it probably puts them in a situation where they need to go 5-1 or 6-0 in B1G play after that.

Yeah kind of at that point where it's must win time. This Iowa team is interesting. It appears that Iowa isn't quite good enough up and down the roster to consistently score runs against B1G or good school pitching (K-State, Missouri State, Dallas Baptist). In the mid-week games, Iowa is consistently putting way more runs on the board than it did last year in the great season.

Hawks appear to be good enough to be a threat to win most any game, but not good enough to win most times. Very excited for the future of Iowa baseball, but there was bound to be a transition from the experience that was on hand when Heller took the job to the next crop of players. Especially when Iowa doesn't benefit by playing the teams at the bottom of the league this year. Here's hoping Hawks can win enough games to make the B1G tourney and capture some magic for a weekend.
