Kennedy takes aim at depression meds

Good job America, I’m sure things will be much better with millions off their depression and anxiety meds.

I take depression meds, and I’m 0% concerned I’ll lose the opportunity to take them. More fear mongering from the left.

CSB: I once dated a girl who was on all kinds of antidepressants, bipolar meds, etc etc and she was the most violent woman I've ever met. Even ON the meds. She's now facing a max of 16 years in jail for going after her new man with a knife.

Based on my first hand evidence there may be something to what he's saying 🤷‍♂️

Sounds like a combo of her already being a lunatic and also not being prescribed the correct meds. The wrong meds can do so much more damage than none at all. The right meds can really change a life for the better.

I read the article. I’m not a doctor but I have always been suspicious of those types of medications being overprescribed. And every commercial that advertises the latest drug seems to always come with a warning that suicidal thoughts can increase after taking it.

With that said, I didn’t read anywhere that Kennedy plans to do anything about it. What is the concern? That he’s going to go after doctors for prescribing Zoloft or Prozac? Try to make those medications illegal?

I actually agree with Kennedy that a lot of our processed foods full of harmful chemicals are contributing to mental health problems in people. I would add too much social media is part of the problem along with poor socialization and lack of exercise.

Yes, some people need medication to fix a naturally occurring chemical imbalance in their brains; other people just need to change their lifestyles and go through cognitive/behavioral therapy.

Risk of suicide can increase because some people are too depressed to actually act on harming themselves. When the drugs start working they can find the motivation. The drugs aren’t making them suicidal, they’re making them better enough to act. That’s why suicidal people aren’t just given drugs and left to themselves.

I think it depends. Some people have a very negative reaction to some. My sister is one. SSRI drugs can be dangerous. It took a couple tries before my sister was able to tolerate one.

FTR, I agree the alternative is worse. And yes, I get your point and largely agree with it.

There are certainly dangers, but they do so much good.

Nothing about this administration’s actions leads me to believe they’ll take a thoughtful and methodical approach to anything.

It'll be interesting to see where he goes with this. If it's some added language on a fed website about that class of drugs, if it's trying to secure money for "wellness farms" ... or if he really goes hog-wild and tries to make the drugs much harder to get.

If he really wanted to help people with SSRIs he'd probably be better off spending time identifying the pre-conditions that lead to people getting on them in the first place. (which isn't always easy, but, probably is rooted in some aspects of modernity, the way we live in the 21st)

o despite this evidence, what options does Kennedy offer in response to the supposed overprescription of and addiction to SSRIs? In a podcast appearance last July, Kennedy said he planned to dedicate money generated from a sales tax on cannabis products to “creating wellness farms—drug rehabilitation farms, in rural areas all over this country.” He added, “I’m going to create these wellness farms where they can go to get off of illegal drugs, off of opiates, but also illegal drugs, other psychiatric drugs, if they want to, to get off of SSRIs, to get off of benzos, to get off of Adderall, and to spend time as much time as they need—three or four years if they need it—to learn to get reparented, to reconnect with communities.” The farm residents would grow their own organic food because, he suggested, many of their underlying problems could be “food-related.”

I don't have a problem with farms like that in principal. I mean, devil is in the details, do we want this to be a federal thing, etc. But if Kennedy merely championed options like this from his post, that's not as big of a deal

Can we get all of them extra firearms after we take away the meds?

And find school bus driver positions for them?

Ought to be a real nice MAGA formula for success here...

I am with him on this one. I took them for 13 years. Haven't needed them since I got out of teaching. Started on Effexor. Had to do without it for a couple weeks. Withdrawal was a bitch. My doctor told me they have diminishing therapeutic effect over time. Dosage has to be increased to produce any benefits. Stopped taking them 8+ years ago and haven't missed them.

It’s like they want chaos so when everyone has had enough and protests they can turn loose the military. I mean, there’s a plan being hatched. It’s sinister and we are having a hard time believing that it’s going to be really effing terrible.

You misspelled doctors which again makes you a moron.
Doctors have an incentive to prescribe and keep people on medications in the US.

…propublica isn’t MAGA if you’re wondering.

Without even reading the article, I know that antidepressants can be addictive, may lead to violence, and can even trigger suicidal thoughts. However, the answer isn’t to ban them. Patients should already be reporting these side effects to their physician or psychiatrist so they can explore alternative treatments.

For example, I know firsthand that I can’t take Cymbalta...it makes me numb, extremely irritable, and prone to angry outbursts. So guess what? I don’t take it.

Because you're not exercising your body stimulating naturally occurring endorphins to fight off the anxiety and depression,

Worrying about how winded you are, how tired you are and how sore you during hard exertion does wonders on getting ones mind of their mind.

Our largest epidemic is obesity and inactivity AINEC.
Not sure. It may be:
