Iowa was close, or at least very much in the running, to landing this kid who is now settling in quite nicely for Maryland, right? Ties to McCaffery and kids, right?

He's almost single-handedly making sure the Terps don't lose on their home floor to Nebraska right now.

Damn.

Damn.

Damn.

Hueter looks like a good player, but that was his career game so far. Before that only shooting 30% from 3pt line.

Morrow looks less athletic than Wagner, but better offensive put back game. Wagner needs to develop some skills if he wants to play. Just being quick and jumping pretty well is not enough.

True, Wagner is a very good athlete, without a lot of basketball skills. I think when Garza and Nunge, and Kreiner get established, his minutes will be few. Would secretly love to see him in Kinnick playing tight end.

In regards to Wagner. Development. Wait for it. So we don't have to come back later surprised that he got better.

In regards to misses. If only Fran would relocate Iowa to the East Coast. Or convince Ed Morrow he was adopted and doesn't have to play sports at the same school his "Mom and Dad" played for.

In regards. My regards. :)

Fran has always been able to identify talent. He has just missed on A LOT of it.
Coach Fran can identify talent as can most all college coaches; however, he struggles closing the sale. I think it is his personality and how he is received by the top recruits. George Ravelling did not have trouble recruiting to Iowa, he just had trouble coaching them once they arrived on campus.

You forgot that Fran almost got Ed Morrow (Neb) too. It was between us and NE, I guess he rather be a bugeater.

Think Morrow's were husker alums. Remember hearing it was him or Watson and reason how they got them.

If by "personality" you mean he wants kids that take school and character seriously then you are correct. He is demanding and it's not for everyone.

Yeah i remember thinking we were gonna get morrow who wants to play for a school that doesn't care about basketball(volleyball school)(and think their a football school). He was a 4 star if I remember right. I was shocked he went to a school to lose. But seems every recruit fran just misses on becomes great. He has a way above eye for talent imo are recruiting classes have been near last or last in the big ten yet we have been 12-6 twice and 9-9 twice in last 4 years.

Easy now, for going to a school to lose they've knocked off Indiana and Maryland to start out the conference with a young team. They're getting some players there. I hope the team flames out again just like any other Hawkeye fan, but we'll see.

As for Fran, if he can regularly pull in kids like Cook in the future and continue to identify talent as he's done so far, we're in for a ride!

Watching Huerter today for the first time I can definitely see why Fran tried to get him. Sounds like today was his breakout game this year. Long, lean player that can shoot it.

By no means am I saying Wagner won't get better. He probably will. It's just that Iowa's frontcourt recruiting really seems to be on an uptick. Garza, and Nunge look to be very skilled bigs with varied skill sets. Playing time will be interesting next year with Cook, Pemsyl, Baer, Wagner, Kreiner, Uhl. Garza, and Nunge. Not saying Ahmad won't have a role next year, but he's going to have find somekind of niche offensively to contribute, or I think he and Uhl get passed over. By the way, I think thats a good thing, If Fran can continue to raise the overall level of incoming players. Very excited for this group and the future players.

Wait for it like Uhl?

I'm just going to assume you are joking. So, my smart response:

No, like Ellingson that kid that turned out like Oglesby and transferred and we never heard from again.
They're not apples to apples, though Uhl and JO may be an apt comparison.
