KF special. Beth must intervene

Can we stop with the idolizing Chris Doyle like he brought us completely different results ??? If anything our defense has been better since he left….

But to go back in time we had Doyle:
2010 where our defense couldn’t make a god damn play against the best teams. Where was this Doyle magic that season ?
2011 - average year
2012 - 4 wins
2013 2014 - eh
2015 - undefeated but again couldn’t get off the field against a good team and completely blown out in the Rose Bowl
2016 - injuries and let down season with CJ
2017 - 2018 - 2019 - Wonder Boy takes over, we get a couple wins against the big boys but also look horrible against others

The last time Iowa was a bully was 2008 and 2009. We also had legit NFL talent on both sides of the ball

That’s what has been missing vs a strength coach. Talent
Doyle. Period.
I'll throw you a bone with Reese Morgan as well.

BB wanted Terry Allen for his FB coach.

Over 100 Division 1 football programs did and are doing completely fine without Doyle McPoyle on staff. Iowa had also lost its edge for several years by the time he was pushed out, as previously mentioned. I wouldn't mention Morgan in comparison to him either, Morgan looks like a saintly nice guy compared to Doyle's assholishness.

It’s the talent.

We last won something of significance in 2009.

Yes we were more competitive against top teams but is that what we’re basing success on now ? That we won some games against top 10 teams and the ones we didn’t the score was close ?

Since 2020 we’ve had absolute crap for offensive talent. The worst QBs and coaching, horrible offensive lines. Bad WR, but pretty good TE and decent RB

That’s why Iowa has fallen so behind and struggles against the mid to lower teams (which we still beat…barely), Iowas offensive recruiting has had so many misses

Sounds like some folks here need to follow a more successful team. Kirk will retire soon enough.
Iowa State looking decent, winning against teams with a pulse. Doubt it continues. Combine the talents from both rosters and they would still barely be a top 12 team

ISU’s offensive talent runs circles around UIowa’s offensive talent. Personnel, coaching, philosophy…ISU is clearly better offensively. My opinion only.

Seriously, Beth is not going to fire Kirk - ever. He's the winningest coach in Iowa history. The stadium is sold out. KF is highly respected by everyone, except on social media of course. The Hawks will win 8 games and go to a minor bowl.

Iowa doesn't fire coaches for not winning championships. And they certainly don't fire them for getting stomped by top teams.

I am not putting forth a case to keep KF, I just saying what I believe is a fact. He's not going to get fired.

Right now Iowa doesn't have the horses to compete with top teams. Blame recruiting, NIL, poor use of the portal - whatever. There was simply an obvious difference in the talent on the field yesterday. Even the Iowa defense was overmatched. Forcing a couple of turnovers helped keep the game close for a while.

I agree it's time to move on. But this is the team we've got for now. Hopefully they can beat some "normal" college teams.

Strongly disagree that Kirk gets to decide when he finally retires. He’s been paid lots of money over his 26 years as head coach.

If Kirk’s boss (Beth Goetz) asks that he retires after this season, Kirk should agree. He shouldn’t be bigger than the program.

It’s cumulative. In the first half, Cade did a great job scrambling out of the pocket on the play and a wide receiver had the defender beat by 3 yards. You make that throw and we get points of some sort - whether a FG or better. He pooped the bed and under threw the ball into the ground. He also had a tight end wide open on a different drive where he threw the ball behind the receiver. We ended up failing to get a first down on both possessions. Just too many mistakes by a veteran QB that was supposed to be a difference maker. He’s just not good enough. This was a team with playoff aspirations with their defense and that’s clearly not happening, so the season is objectively a disappointment.
agree--we needed for our stars to make plays and not make turnovers and they did just the opposite--my big concern coming out of this game is how our O Line continues to get manhandled at the point of attack and how poor their pass blocking is.
This is a veteran line as well so their is something off in the wood pile on this. They bring in a 6th o line man(58) on the goal line and he immediately gets beat on 2 consecutive plays. Next year o line will be much worse.....
ALso--can we start putting some beef on these guys so maybe thye do not get pushed back into the QB time and again--it is not like they are quicker as you can see they go around the left tackle quite often...

Tough to win when the o line is not good and the d line gets pushed back 3 yds on half the plays and never did even get a whiff of the QB--like their was a wall around him....

You f'n morons that think Doyle has anything to do with garbage on the field needs to stop drinking grain alcohol. The putrid offense and inability to judge QB talent is the reason we suck. What recruits want to come play for a 23 pt offense? Not even the diamonds in the rough. No skill players outside of TE's get drafted, so they go somewhere else. If KF is pouting about BF and Doyle, the f him getting the win record and show him the door. Being a petty bitch isn't Iowa football.

I hope you're right but I think he has proven with how he handled everything about Brian's employment...from lying to get around nepotism rules to promoting him to OC and QB coach with no experience to retaining him despite historically bad performances to how pissy he was when Beth stepped in to do the right thing that he doesn't give a shit what the fans, media or anyone thinks.

I think he's bitter Brian isn't on the staff and gets more bitter when anyone questions him in any way. I think he's going to milk the university for all he can...especially if he is pressured to leave before he is ready. I think it absolutely is all about the money with him and I really doubt he's gonna walk away any time soon with that much on the table. Again, I hope I'm wrong and he is able to close out his tenure on good terms for everyone but won't be surprised one bit if things go the other way
When coaches stick around this long, it never ends well. Never. There’s literally no examples of a coach has coached at one program for this many years and not considered to have hung out for at least 4 to 5 years too long simply because he became synonymous with the program and was given too much leeway for too long due to results he produced more than 10-15 years earlier. Just the way it is. If KF is here in 2025, it is going to be as ugly as 1998 was for Hayden. I, like many Iowa fans, have seen this coming for a long time…

Some professions, like clergy and club golf professionals have a stigma about them….after 5 years or so, regardless of the good works these folks do, they have “pissed off” enough folks that outsiders (rightly or wrongly) start taking pop shots at them. Football coach would fit into this catagory.

So is it a nature of the position….or is it human nature?

After 5 years or so a coach is smart to move on. I remember back in the mid 80’s and Hayden was sniffing at the USC job……and it ended in a raise and a contract extension…..If I were Bump, I’s have told Hayden….”we are doin’ everything we can for you now but IF you want, we can talk to ??? About the position you’re seeking…”
Could have done that with Kirk, too……Contracts are TWO-WAY streets…..

Sometimes ADs need to be ass-holes. But ADs always have to be “the boss.”

"Highly respected by everyone." LOL

If Beth is the AD she claims to be, yes, KF will be fired unless he resigns first. Otherwise, Beth is no better than Barta. Major college football programs demand results. Iowa getting embarrassed by an old man who never did know squat about QBs or offense is not tenable. If Beth doesn't get rid of Ferentz, one way or the other, at the end of this season, then Beth should be fired.

So excited for the prospects of getting our asses kicked on a national stayed in a minor bowl again. But hey, we’ll win 8 games.

The days of college FB coaches being allowed to stay into their dotage are over. NIL and transfers put well paid to that notion

I see KF retiring after this season. Why? He should have a .600 winning percentage by the end of the season, and will be eligibly for the coaching HOF

Then look at next year's schedule: it's BRUTALLY tough. With graduations, we'll be lucky to go 6-6, with 4-8 a real possibility. With BF having moved on, and Lester looking pretty good, and Seth Wallace waiting in the wings, I think KF may decide the time is right after our bowl game

The Ferentz Fatigue is real, and probably at an all-time high in the State.

Kirk lost a lot of people with all the Brian nepotism shenanigans

Also, (rightly or wrongly) he's held responsible for costing the U and the State a lot of money with the lawsuit settlement fiasco.

People who work in Iowa education and government jobs, whose job security is constantly threatened with following the rules, and who are dealing with "cuts, cuts, cuts" to their budget hold a lot of resentment toward him. Some of his biggest fans from a few years ago now see him as arrogant and selfish.

No, he’s not. BG has a career to think about, and she’s not going to let grandpa Kirk continue to drag the program into the doldrums just because he’s been allowed to coach longer than a vast majority of coaches do. She is very cordial, but like most new AD’s at big-time schools, I’m sure she’s starting to list reasons why she needs to get “her guy” in there.
I think people really underestimate how hard it is to get "their guy" in there. It's gotta be a home run or she's gone with them.

I have kirk fatigure as much as everyone else but you all realize once he goes we lose Parker with him right? Zero % chance he sticks around when Kirk leaves.

If Beth was smart enough to address the o coordinator last season, I’m sure she’s aware that Iowa is falling more and more behind the blue bloods of college football. Even she has to know that something needs to change.
Firing an OC is way different than firing a HC.

Beth will not intervene. No chance.
Not if she sees herself at Iowa for the long haul. But she's young, smart, very much a climber with regards to her career. So if being the AD at Iowa is just her short-term plan with an eye on moving ahead at a bigger and better opportunity within the next 5 or so years, I could see her making a move and taking the short-term heat. It would alienate her from most of the Iowa fanbase but probably demonstrate to other schools she's willing and able to make the big moves when necessary.

She wouldn't alienate me. Heck. I'd send her a Christmas card.

His buyout is not a deal-breaker for getting him out the door. It would be negotiated for probably less than half of what his contract stipulates. If word got out that BG wanted to move on and KF gouged the University for every penny he could, at age 70, after collecting probably in the neighborhood of $100M over his tenure, he would lose any goodwill he might have left with the fanbase.
If he retires after another winning season, and the next coach doesn't win. He will get no ill will and people will be against Goetz 100%.

People will remember his shit offense, but they'll remember winning more. They won't care about him gouging the U.

Ya I'm kind of over the Doyle love fest. If Braithwaite is a problem, then replace him. Doyle's not coming back, nor should he.

Hayden didn't have cancer in 1989 when he went 5-6 with losses to 8-4 Oregon 6-44, 8-4 OSU 0-28, and 6-5 Minnesota 7-43. He also didn't have cancer in 1992 though 1994 when we were 16-18-1 over a three year period with not 1 winning season. What was Hayden's excuse for those 4 seasons? Maybe winning at Iowa is not nearly as easy as fans believe.

My fear is that if BG tries to pull the trigger, she'll encounter resistance from... people of influence, and resign if she doesn't have the control she expected to have.

If Iowa indeed has “people of influence” who want to protect a 70-year-old senile HC who hasn’t beaten an elite team in 7 years, hasn’t had a season of significance in 9 years, hasn’t won a major bowl game in 15 years and hasn’t won a conference title in 20 years, then we have a big, big problem….

For sure.

Iowa might not do things “under the table” like other programs do, but it’s no less corrupt. For a lot of folks, it’d take a Paterno-gate to force KF out.

This is valid at the moment. Jury is still out if their coaching/philosophy is better than lesters. But their personnel is absolutely better than Iowa's outside of Johnson.
