Khalil Tate has entered the portal

Well, that’s two DB’s this portal cycle that were targeted for a lot of playing time. I honestly thought he was going to work his way to a starter. Starting to get pretty thin back there.
Disappointing to hear he is in the portal. He was a big time recruit and I hoped he could work his way into the rotation for next season. But it appears two younger players haved moved ahead of him in the two deeps.

Yeah, news around the secondary continues to get worse and worse. And considering our guys were burnt toast for most of the year last year, Kirk better do something in the portal, or teams like Indiana and Oregon are going to make mincemeat out of our defense.

Are we playing Indiana from last season? How do you know what they have?

If they guy was not getting heavy reps in practice then I could see why he went to the portal. Do we know if that was the case? Or does he think his value way more than what he can make at Iowa??

Does this have something to do with a WR being moved to DB......or did I dream that happened, which is quite possible.

They were burnt toast in many instances because the D Line was getting zero pressure.

A guy who was in line for a lot of playing time doesn't leave the program, unless something unrelated to playing time is going on in the guy's life. So, either he wasn't advancing into the amount of playing time he feels he should get (and I will always trust the coaches, particularly Parker, that they know what they want) or something else is happening that caused him to leave.

There are exceptions - Julius Brent was a good CB, but he was playing at a time there were other good CBs at Iowa, and he didn't want to wait another year, but in general, the coaches are right. Preaching patience, your time will come, doesn't register with some, so they move on. Wish him well.

Most of the responses on this thread seem to indicate Tate left due a 'lack of playing time" or "others passed him on the depth chart".
Y'all might consider the possibility some other team offered him more money.

I am sure a guy who has been in the program for +2 yrs and has yet to see any game action had a lot of NIL offers
