How many kids can claim they won three national basketball championships?
I wanted her to choose Iowa. Would have helped this year's team get deeper yet into NCAA.
But, she has her own accomplishments. To each their own.
Kudos to her for all her hard work and success.

what's sad is its UCONN and everybody else fighting for 2nd

Once Iowa lost in the sweet 16, i tuned out because the eventual champion was clear

The Women's NCAA tournament means nothing because we all know how it ends.

Kiah traded playing time for championships. She got 10 minutes in the game but can still say she was a champion. It was what she cared about and congrats to her. She had planned on becoming Iowa's all time re bounder until Geno showed up.

Assuming this is a troll attempt?

She was the conference defensive player of the year, a finalist for national defensive player of the year playing only 18 minutes a game.

Also she won 3 rings. Cannot fault that choice.

And your thing about until Geno showed up... He has been there 30 years so I am assuming you are just fishing for responses.

Oak is NOT a troll. He knows more about Iowa women's basketball than 99% of people on this board. Most posters on this board know that.

How much time did Kiah play in championship game?? I didn't watch much so cant say but assume it was about 10 minutes.
the comment about Geno is most likely referring to him starting to recruit Kiah. If UConn doesn't offer, then she is probably going to choose Iowa.. That is what last sentence meant from my reading.

Like most posters, I would have preferred she choose Iowa but she chose UConn and the rest is history.

Being called a troll by "Curt Furence"? Priceless...

Kiah would have played a much bigger role had she come to Iowa. I believe Iowa would have gone much further into the tourney with her on the team. I never felt like she was used correctly at UCONN, where she spent MOST of her time on the bench. Congratulations on her championships. Hated watching her having to sit on the bench and watch.

Wow, I thought Bluder rode her starters a lot. The talent on that team and the bench only gets 13 minutes in the title game?

Not used correctly at UCONN? LOL. The coach wins 87% of his games and has won the last 3 NCAA titles. He must be doing something correctly.

I read the last sentence wrong. That is my fault. I do not follow the women threads enough to know he is the Iowa Women's expert.

But still, would she have had a "better" career at Iowa? Possibly, but she would not have been the type of player she was at UCONN, but for some winning is more important than a legacy of scoring record.

Also, not trolling Ferentz, but the idiots who still can pronounce his name after 15 years

This is exactly right. She evidently put more stock into winning championships than playing time. As long as she is happy, that's all that matters, but for every player that sees it as she does, there's probably a few others that do not.

Ditto.
No doubt UConn would have won at least three national championships even if she wasn't on the team. While should could have been a superstar at Iowa.

But she got a free education on the East Coast, lived four years a short train ride from NYC, and I guess winning national championships IS pretty cool.

She couldn't go wrong with either choice I suppose.

Oak wasn't really saying she would have a better career at Iowa, just stating she would have gotten more minutes here but made the choice to play for a yearly contender (and congratulating her). I didn't read anything in his post as being a dig on Kia, just stating how it happened.

Not a dig at Kiah at all, she is a great young lady. I was just pointing out that she would have gotten a lot more court time if she came to iowa. But, most likely, no Championships. Se thought UCONN would give her the best college basketball experience.

It all comes down to what is important for the individual. The last two years must have been more fun for her because she got to play much more. For some players seeing the court is more important. but when you are almost promised a Final four ecery year it is hard to turn down. Iowa had recruited Kiah for years but Geno swooped in and sold her on UCONN at the last minute. It must be nice to be able to do that.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume she figured she'd be a starter at some point out there.

NO OFFENSE whatsoever to Lisa, but she has aspirations of coaching and there aren't many names to put on a resume that look better than Geno's.

And there is another aspect to consider. One of the best HS football players this state has ever produced choose to play FB in another state. He earned just about every honor a defensive player could during his career. He told me in the presence of his parents that he now regrets his decision not to stay home and play for Iowa, Iowa State or even UNI. All of them offered. He says that only now, yeasr later, it pains him that almost nobody in Iowa ever got to see him play much and even fewer followed his career from afar. Now, when he is home, and the topic of football comes up he usually finds himself silent when talking about the old days.

I"ve always said I'd rather be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond. And I'd rather play on a losing team than sit on the bench on a winning team.

Not hating on Kiah, I'm glad she got what she wanted, but I think the idea of being a top athlete and going to play on a team like UCONN (or KY in men's) with a bunch of other top athletes is kind of boring. Kind of like being on the playground and putting the best 5 players on one team that beats everyone else. What's the fun in doing what you are supposed to be able to do anyway?

To each his own.

I understand how this could happen.

At the same time, a school such as Iowa absolutely depends on good (preferably great) out of state players to fill key roles on all their athletic teams, from baseball to wrestling and every sport in between, in order to be competitive.

Or TA.

Would you rather be Tim Dwight or Raef Lafrenz? Raef probably had the better career but his name may as well be Mudd while Tim Dwight will be recalled fondly around the state for several more decades.

Yeah well maybe he should f***ing stop then, hmm?....

Btw, he said in an interview recently that the men's game is a joke. The guy whose program owns women's college basketball and helped turn it into a hierarchy of 6-ish haves and hundreds of nots called the men's game a joke......

Just FYI.....the scholarship offer to Stokes turned into one for Melissa Dixon. I believe Dixon was going to walk on at UI until Stokes decided to go to UConn.

Kiah never turned into an offensive scoring threat while at UCONN. Over shadowed by other players. I'm sure she would have been a more productive player at Iowa and prepared for the WNBA and now probally playing over seas.

Kiah Stokes, Taylor Greenfield and Markisha Wright. All 3 really good in-state players that would have had much more productive careers staying in Iowa, but they chose the name programs in UConn, Stanford and ND, respectively. All seniors this year. Can't blame any of those girls for rhe schools they chose, and the educations they received.

Melissa Dixon got an immediate scholarship instead of walking on for a year and the post scholarship went to Bethany Doolittle. So Iowa did pretty well with that two for one swap.
