Diana Taurasi

Let me guess, you think we lose recruits because of Hawkeye report too? 🤣🤣
Well who was the dipsh** a year or two ago that tried to get wrestling recruits to not go to Iowa because of stuff said on HR?

I showed him stuff said on Penn State's boards as well and that seemed to quickly go away..........

That has to be the dumbest thing I have ever read.

So if it is written on a Newspaper site and read by a million people…it’s real.

If a style of comment is written on forums and twitter and read by tens of millions of people…it’s not real?
Do those things really get tens of millions views? I had no idea

The Peacock NBC is going to have an Altcast like the NBA finals for men and woman's Olympic basketball. Tons of sponsor dollars for ads. Bomani Jones and the other 3 just sitting back making comments during live play with interactions from viewers was awesome. Caitlin Clark has been offered 1 Million $ to join 3 other guys to cover the live Olympic bb games. WNBA hierarchy are going to freak out when the dudes go off on some of the old wnba players attitudes.

They won't have to. The women will win every game by 20+. Yes, the game is growing but our players are still the best by far. The only thing I'll laugh about is when the olds get tired and Aja Wilson, Inescou and the girls in their prime have to carry.

Want iron to sharpen iron before the tournament? Take all the girls who feel like they were slighted and have them be the practice players. It won't ever happen but man that would be must see tv.

Taurusi is some of the reason CC has gotten some of the cheap shots. The double teams and some of the physicality were coming no matter what. But as the oldest woman in the league she has a lot of sway. That comment gave the OK to go cheap on CC.

Yep. We've seen a lot of hyped rookies come into the pros in every sport. They take their lumps. Some play great right away, some struggle. But this WNBA thing has been strange. There's definitely an undercurrent of resentment and a "we're gonna show this little bitch" vibe. It reinforces a lot of sterotypes.

I am one of the many people that never heard of Taurasi until CC came into the W.
I love when the olds as someone called them say, we set this wheel in motion and now it just so happens to be CC’s class that gets the publicity for making the league grow.

It’s really a stupid statement if you look at attendance at CC games vs all other games. CC is the reason the league has blown up this year. If some of these angry old women would have been more likable then maybe you could say they had some part in the increase in popularity. The fact is CC is likable and has flair. People want to be entertained, not watch missed layup after missed layup.

Maybe if Taurasi would have broken Maravich’s all time scoring record, people would have watched.

I looked up the top 25 all time scoring leaders in NCAA history and was shocked to that DT wasn't on that list. Then I looked up the top 25 assist leaders and she wasn't on that list either. So I looked at the top 25 all time rebounders and not on that list either! WTH that CAN'T be correct. I demand a recount!

Never hurts to play for a dominant program like UCONN

Yes, just like the invalid fair catch call in football...it sucked when it happened, but it was the right call.

And she played on the best team in the country for four years, surrounded by All Americans and 5 stars, and she only averaged 4 assists a game.

Try looking up the top 1 list of professional womens basketball players in the US?

And why would even waste your time looking up to see if a shooting guard is on any top list for assists or rebounds?

Diana’s WNBA “goat status” is largely due to her longevity. Yes, she holds a lot of records, but she’s been playing in the league for 21 seasons.

By comparison,

-Lisa Leslie played 13 seasons
-Sheryl Swoops (gross) played 15 seasons
-Cadence Parker played 16 seasons
-Tamika Catchings played 15 seasons

So, sure, she owns the all time scoring record, but even after playing 20+ seasons, she doesn’t lead the league in championships or MVPs. And according to CC’s haters, including Diana, that’s how you determine greatness.

Or does that only count for college? lol

She was more about winning titles than compiling stats.

So what about her WNBA career? Three titles and two MVPs in 21 seasons when there were only 12-15 teams to compete against is pretty underwhelming for a “Goat” individual. Especially one that is “more about winning titles than compiling stats” lol.

Steals, maybe? She's probably on that list.

Called on the field and flag thrown as the play happened? OK

Done retroactively during an unnecessary replay to review something else (out of bounds) and citing an overhead angle (which is completely contradictory to the spirit of the rule). No. It was bullshit.

You could call it free porn and tacos and high school kids still won't visit
Not sure if I already responded to this or not, but that's why they need to force HS kids to re-popularize Iowa Preps.com

Damn people shaming everyone into needing to be nice to each other thus killing the board.

This board would be dead if we were forced to only have nice things to say about everything Iowa athletics even when the team, coaches, etc suck and require our professional criticism. ;)

And that's without saying anything about talking sh** about our rivals, which is what really killed Iowa Preps.

Come about 2010ish, I would peak in once and a while because that board was already dying, and basically any time someone had something to say about a rival school, it became the most popular thread for the next month......not because of the discourse, no.......but because 30 people would jump in and just sh** on the OP for daring to say something mean about a rival. And then the thread would die off and everyone would disappear for the next 3 months until the annual circle jerk for the 4A DSM teams that were all world winning the state titles of whatever sport was in-season.

Pretty sure nowadays that site is mostly just spam threads.

But really though, if someone on here told me to slow down on the Wisconsin hatred, I'll tell them bluntly, "Do you know why I'm not going to?"

And they'll ask, "Why?...."

And I'll say, "Because f*** Wisconsin, that's why. :)"

I’ve been on these boards for so long that I remember vividly Taurasi at UCONN and I started a thread on the OT board asking “Is Diana Taurasi kinda sexy? I can’t tell.”

Would been 2003-ish.

No idea what I was thinking.
Probably because that was 20 years ago and a young Howler thought anything that had a pulse was potentially sexy. Age provides perspective and wisdom.

Don't mind him, he loves Turasi like a fat kid loves cake

I am not a cake eater….literally.

I have no love or hate for Taurasi

Do on the other hand have a great deal of respect for her skills. Also have not seen anything she has stated that was not truthful.

So many Iowa fans are so bent out of shape based on a honest, true full statement by Taurasi.

This is what triggered so many…and it was in a discussion about the Rookie class:

“Reality is coming. There’s levels to this thing and that’s just life. We all went through it. You see it on the NBA side, and you’re going to see it on this side where you look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds, but you’re going to come with some grown women who have been playing professional basketball for a long time.

"Not saying that it's not going to translate, because when you're great at what you do, you're just going to get better, but there is going to be a transition period where you're going to have to give yourself some grace as a rookie. It might take a little bit longer for some people."

No one has come into this league in the last 20 years (or ever) that has had that level of celebrity, popularity, financial set up as Caitlin. I don't disagree that the rest is an accurate assessment, it just felt like she was turning the knife a little when it came to Caitlin, but wouldn't single her out as such. Also, being asked to provide running commentary during the Iowa - UCONN game wasn't going to be easy, and wasn't the greatest forum for expressing her sentiments - because those comments were going to necessarily be interpreted to target Caitlin. I think that's what rouses people's emotions about Taurasi; it wasn't "some people" she was talking about, it was "one person". And for all of the above reasons, her comments ironically comes off as ungrateful on her part.

And in the past, she (or anyone else in the WNBA) could say whatever they wanted, and the falling tree made no noise because there was no one in the forest.

I think it's because she said give yourself some grace and I keep hearing that more and more now and it's become the most cringe jump the shark latest fad turn of phrase people run into the ground to describe something like "keeping it 100"................

And in all seriousness, no that's not really the reason, but I'm still gonna call out everyone that uses that from now on. :)

She did it the year before as well.

Watch that clip…before life for WNBA players became the 24 Hour Caitlin News Channel…she was very complimentary of Caitlin and said flat out her game was going to work in the WNBA.
