Kicker Scott Starzyk has Decommitted from Iowa

He saw Stevens' performance at Maryland and thought it looked like too much work
First thing I thought when I saw he decommitted.

Stevens has a cannon for a leg and WILL go beyond
60 yds several times before he's done at IOWA

If Kirk will allow it.

Kid from Bettendorf has a huge leg as well, he hit a 55 yarder earlier, This decommit has been known for quite some time. I am assuming he is headed to Michigan where it was projected he was going.
Ann Arbor is a shit hole. They think the rules don't apply to them. When they get caught cheating they take a holier than thou attitude. I lived in Michigan for fifteen years, flew my Hawkeye flag every day. Drove my neighbors nuts. Live in Ohio now, folks here are a lot more tolerable.

Peffect place for Starcyk.

Ann Arbor is actually really nice, now Toledo and Detroit are different. Columbus isn't great either TBH.

Dude we are in the portal era. Keep up!
I probably have a contrarian view of the portal in that I don't see it as the way to build your team just a means to supplement it. We've had very mixed results with it early in the game so far.

The low number of commitments may reflect coming scholarship reductions or just that they may have an eye on some kids they still need to evaluate. We'll know more in December when the portal opens up.

I really dislike (hate) the portal and NIL but its the way it is and going to be. December 9 will be the start of an interesting time.

Wow. One would think the so-called best kicker in the country would be worth more than 2 stars.

Is that all they give decent kickers?

How do you skip the chance to come in and likely be Iowa's top scorer every year that you're on campus?

Idiot Reaction GIF

At NO point did I say that Stevens was leaving. Just that maybe he misread the tea leaves and thought he'd come in and beat out Stevens who was struggling. As I also stated, he's received other top end offers SINCE he committed including one from Michigan. Whether some $$ was included in some of those offers, who knows.
No doubt he got a nice offer $. He's got plenty of suitors. That said, he knew Stevens had another year (2 if he has a potential redshirt) so he shouldn't have committed if he wanted a sure thing. He could still beat Stevens out if he's that good. Would have been great to land him, but it's not going to hurt the team. Iowa always seems to find a good kicker.

More upset about Maddyn Greenway. Wouldn’t it be neat to lose out on a QB and not a fvcking kicker. Who cares.

Still don’t understand the logic of not attempting a 63 yarder at end of the Iowa State game and instead having McNamara throw a lame pass.
Would that have been with or against the wind? Maybe if there was a very stiff wind to your back it might have been a reasonable thought.

That really is the only time you can try it, the last play of a half or game, and probably a bit wind aided.

You don't see 60+ yard attempts very often.
Of course not. Like I said it would have to be at the end of either half. You're not going to risk a miss and give the other team the ball well inside plus territory. That and there probably aren't 10 kickers in college who would have a decent shot at a 60+ yarder unless is was very wind aided. We have one of those guys.....

It sucks but you cannot blame this kid. How much money would it take for us to change jobs. These kids have such a small window to cash in. There are only 32 kicking jobs in NFL. These kids need make the $$$ when they can.

Can't remember the wind against osu but his 58 yard attempt first half was well up on the left side upright and just missed hitting the upright. He's got IT, just needs the opportunity.

I don’t think he needs a stiff wind at his back. With no wind he easily has the distance for 55 yards.

the woodlands is nice area of houston. lots of Olympic training there. I figured maybe U of H or UT or Tech

A matter of semantics but what wind there was would have been in his face.
It’s not simply semantics. If there was no wind it wouldn’t affect a kick. Still a long attempt for sure. Perhaps the bigger point is that it shouldn’t have come down to that.
