The kid was not much of an athlete, but he's one I always hold up as how wrestling can be a life-changing activity. He just kept working at the sport until he went from lousy to average, from average to pretty good, and from pretty good to very good. Finished his Senior year 4th in the state in NJ.

As a true freshman going against a 5th year Senior returning AA, he got demolished this morning. But he gave it a good fight, went all 7-minutes, and even scored a legit takedown. I'm very proud and happy for him.

I love stories like this. Thanks for sharing. I've shared before the Jamie Heidt story and how he was BAD as a kid and BADASS as a HS/College wrestler. One of the hardest workers for sure.

Art, any chance this kid ever "sacrificed" anything? o_O Couldn't resist.

Great read Art. And you think about all the kids that may have had more natural talent than your wrestler(clearly he had talent), but never worked as hard as your athlete, or never wanted it as much. Love it.
Wrestling can bring out the best in people, and sometimes even more than their "best" if they really dedicate themselves.

One of the many reasons I love this sport.
