Kirk’s Entire Inept and Pussy philosophy encapsulated in :01 before halftime

I am not picking a fight, this is an honest question. What adjustments did they make? I didn't re-watch it or try to break anything down.....but to me it looked as if they continued to do the same things, and it just started to work because Minny is not a good football team.

If someone knows the offensive adjustments that were made, please share (if you can do it nicely).

It was fun watching them line up and just shove it down PJ's throat............I just can't imagine that is gonna work week to week.

Agree that it appeared to be excellent execution offensively instead of major adjustments. Fans often scoff when Kirk and other coaches emphasize execution, but we should probably take them at their word. There was some great blocking on the long runs.

Regarding offensive adjustments, they incorporated bootlegs, misdirection plays, and more counter/cutback type plays in response to Minnesota's strong slanting towards the offensive strength. On defense, they began sending a 5th pass rusher, which increased pressure on the quarterback and sped him up. So actually Kirk and staff did a wonderful job at halftime making adjustments.

I never expected to be within 2 scores of this Ohio State; we can't compete 💰
That’s the thing. We should be able to at least keep it respectable. But Kirk refuses to put the best players on the field. Especially at the QB position. It’s indefensible. He’s a stubborn old prick who doesn’t have to answer to anyone with his stupid ass contract thanks to Barta.

I knew this thread was coming.

No one is throwing it 60 yds in the air.

Get to the locker room down one score, knowing we're the better team and better staff, and put together a plan to come out and win the game.

Never fails, iowa has a few bad possessions and fans want to fire the coach, put in all the backups, fire the AD, change the mascot, tear down Kinnick, move the old capitol, and change the team colors.

Relax.
We are in year 4 of bad possessions.

Yeah, sometimes the other team is going to be successful; they work all off season and week too.

31-14
Hayden once said, "you know the other team is trying to win too". Sometimes they're just better or make more plays...no doubt. I think most fans recognize the difference between being outplayed by a really good team and looking incompetent.

The thing about Kirk's rope-a-dope style is it often looks like the team is just pathetic...particularly on offense. It seems like a style choice. When you don't go downfield and have no passing game it's going to draw criticism. The optics are that you're not taking advantage of all the options available to you. But he's often able to wear the other team done by the end of 60 minutes.

I think this is why Kirk often has good teams and rarely bad ones... but almost never great. It's built into the recipe.

Whenever I hear about people giving up on the season, I figure they are more like me. Football doesn’t stop, I just watch more of the other games and check in on the Iowa score.
This. I haven't watch an Iowa game this year (although I had planned on watching yesterday, but something popped up) but I still check the score while watching other games or while doing other things.

I'm sure I'll tune in to watch a few games this year. I'm not sure why people start threads to announce it but that's not a big deal to me if they do either.

I absolutely hear ya, and I'm not trying to come across as a guy who thinks everything is all candy and roses in Hawkeye land, as we obviously still have improvements we need to make in the passing game, but damn are we almost never happy with anything anymore.

We had an offense that couldn't get a first down last year and within one year we're putting up over 30 a game. I'm not sure what everyone was expecting, and I'm not sure the exact final ppg we landed on last year, but we're at least 2 touchdowns a game higher in ppg. That's a good step in the right direction.

I think some Iowa fans are traumatized by the last two years. Watching the game at a buddies last night and the whole place was complaining from opening kick until the 2nd TD in the 3rd to go up 21-14. The bitching stopped, but then it was just quiet. It felt like no one had anything to say when there was nothing to bitch about; there was no joy whatsoever in a 17 point win, and an absolutely dominating 2nd half.

People, KF is not getting fired. Not now, not next year, not the year after; he'll be leaving on his own accord. Enjoy the wins and stop expecting every drive to be a touchdown and every time the D steps on the field that it'll be a 3 and out.

This may shock some of you, but the man and his staff have forgotten more about football than you and your entire circle of friends know.

After every first loss of the season, this board is full of, "we won't even win 6 games this year." Ya know what, we always win over 6 games.

Drink a beer and enjoy the game.

You’re practically at midfield and you’re too big of a pussy to let your quarterback throw it deep.

Oh, so Cade has a noodle arm and can’t make it to the end zone? Then bring in a quarterback who can throw it 55 yards. Jesus Christ.

I’m done watching pussy football. Kirk is a joke. No attempts to ever stretch the field. Nothing. Just bland, boring, middle school offense. Always.

Until Kirk steps down or is forced out, I’m out. Enjoy the rest of the game and season, fellas. This is boring, lame, sissy ball. GTFO Kirk.
Finally. See ya.

You really are dense, aren’t you. You should have watched the K-State game. They were playing poorly with seconds left in the 1st half and decided to throw. It was picked and BYU scored a TD before halftime and changed the game completely. Sometimes when things aren’t going well it is smart to let the clock run out and get off the field, because things can get worse. Kirk was smart to go to halftime and regroup. It worked out perfectly. Same way against Troy. But I guess you aren’t perceptive enough to see that, or at least admit it. Go Hawks !

It’s just gotten to the point it’s not entertaining to me anymore. I see Kaleb Johnson had a big second half. That’s great and I am glad Iowa won.
Lighten up Francis.

There’s no defending keeping Cade in the entire fvcking game. It’s the same old shit. And we just beat a shitty team btw. We have to be able to have a pass threat to make this a special season and Cade does not seem to be the answer. OSU in two weeks could get ugly.
OSU games are often ugly if you play them.

I’m sure there were adjustments to our blocking scheme in the 2nd half.

Like what? Enlighten me.
Well, let's go back to Ohio State in 2009 where he took a knee at the end of regulation at our 35. This is at least the second time he didn't at least attempt a Hail Mary - another time was at Purdue. Nobody just gives up at the 50. Multiple examples of turtle ball -going heavy 22 - putting the game on the defense who has had to bail them out over and over instead of having ONE PLAY the offense could run to actually attempt to pick up a first down to ice the game. NDST and a very recent game come to mind. The only time I can remember breaking this trend was the Insight Bowl, iirc, where they threw to Moeaki? I mean, I don't OVERLY care if he runs it but don't TELL them you're running it. Spread the field with some WRs instead of bringing 11 guys into the box. THEN, in those situations he has, for years, had the 5th WR on the roster as the only wideout on the play, I assume so the kid can tell his parents he got snaps. The ONLY time we actually threw out of that to said WR was to Riley McCarron at Iowa State. My point is, we don't even have our best guy on the field just to give a threat of a pass.

Kirk is the most conservative coach I have ever seen in all my years. I used to think it was Marty Schottenheimer.

Lol. The answer is we haven't been good on offense for a long time. Sometimes, you just have to admit the facts. We seem to be trending upward but I've seen nothing to say Cade can do anything when it counts.

They aren't though. Besides the last two meetings, blowouts by both teams, the games have all been rather close going back to 2010. Hell the 2013 game Iowa was up at half. There is zero reason this team shouldn't be able to compete in two weeks.

I'm really not sure why everyone is jumping all over the OP. Do you not see how electric this offense is with Sully in the backfield? there is a reason he is trusted in the rezone. If you are going to say, well Sullivan will turn the ball over, Stanzi in 09 was 17TDs to 15INTs. Implementing an actual RPO with a QB that can scramble in this offense with Johnson or Patterson in the backfield could be electric.

Unbelievable. The "norm" would have been to take a knee with 21 seconds left. Instead we ran 3 plays, 2 by the guy that ripped off a 40 yard run up the gut. Like MN wouldn't be expecting a long pass?

I'm not arguing whether Kirk is ultra conservative coach or not or defendinghim. But you only have to go back to Saturday...Fleck...to find a coach with a lot of the same conservative tendencies

He's nothing like Kirk's 25 years of evidence.
