Kolby Franklin commits

The PS wrestling club has lots of money and new cars. They'll get their fair share...

Really good looking prospect.

My uneducated opinion makes me think this closes the book on recruiting Voelker. This next comment is in no way intended as a "slant" on WV, but it might give ISU an opportunity to recruit one of the better upper weight in State kids and end Dresser's drought.

They both visited. I'm guessing if Voelker had decided to commit he would have been the guy. Voelker very good too. I think he is a tad more athletic/quicker feet but Franklin more of a bull.

Besides Franklin who are the other 3 in the picture again and what’s the deal on them.

Voelker is a very good athlete. Depends on what sport/sports he wants to pursue. I could see him going to a Wartburg and playing football/wrestling.

But if you can get a full ride, D-1 wrestling seems the route. JMO.

He's not going to Wartburg. LOL

Watched an interview he did with Flo after winning Who’s number 1? Got a bit nervous when I heard him say f*n like 6 times.
REALLY, I MEAN REALLY?????? He only said "f'n" 3 times not 6. Now he did say "ya know" 26 times. That is a little more concerning than the number of times that he said "f'n". But rest assured, he WAS flogged 26 times. Once for each offense. I will work diligently to change his word usage. (ok, I mean his mom will. I personally have no F'N sense).....

I swear early and often, personal flaw I'm sure........... (and I do have a "swearing filter" for time and circumstance, but those are few and far between). That said, if the Young Man signs with the Hawks, send him my way and we'll be best pals in no time and he can swear to his hearts content and I won't give a rats ass! 😏

I was just working off the concept of playing two sports. I've watched him play football for two years...he's a beast as rb/lbacker.

And I specifically said the full ride potential lies with wrestling.

I may need that offer in writing. Wait. Already is. 😂

I told his mom…… now we’re both in trouble. Setting up a visit to the local community college. Thanks a lot……

Well this is the NEW Hawkeye regime. Check out the Brands on Flo talking bout how much f*n the Hawkeyes have. It certainly must be f*n to watch this kid win as much as he does. He’s got multiple time National Champ written all over him.

Awwwwwwww man. It’s F-U-N? Geez….. that poor kid. I should probably apologize to him huh? Oops. Meh; he can just bank those lashings. I’m sure he’ll earn em later for something.

Perhaps that’s where his “beast mode” comes from in OT. All jokes aside, elite level talent on your hands there. If only you could bottle that level of enthusiasm.

Thank you. I can’t tell you how much I honestly appreciate the banter. Yes, the entire process of recruiting is serious, but my kid loves the sport, and I love having fun. I believe he is who he is because of the fun he has and his passion for the sport. But the beast mode seriously comes from him just wanting to be as good as his dad was. He’s got a LONG way to go, but he’s on the right path.

Thanks for the comments Phil. I googled you and found a great story that everyone here on HR should read ---

For those who don't know, Phil is father of Gabe Arnold and uncle to J'den Cox.

Great now everyone is gonna think I’m a nice guy that cares about stuff. I was REALLY going for the “thug” image. Sheesh. What’s a guy to do??

Some kids grow up loving PSU and wanting to wrestle there until they don't. Thomas Haines was one of those kids...

Or there is no room at the inn....

Franklin is a really nice get for the Hawks, and he is a great kid by all accounts. I expect him to grow beyond a #5 in your program for sure.

I don't think you see many new recruits for PSU for a year or two, even for the ones that lean PSU except for a few exceptions.

7 Freshman Starters @ 125, 149, 157, 165, 174NC, 195, and Hwt

1 Sophomore @ 184NC

The only upper classmen are at 133NC & 141NC, presumably 141 will have a Freshman or Sophomore in Bartlett covering that next year, and possibly Howard as a Freshman at 133 next year as well.

195 has both Dean and Beard, it's a stretch to see Franklin coming into that situation with the hope of beating out Beard 2 years from now? I don't see that happening.

PSU still has a couple of targets in semi crowded weights for the 2022 class, but if they get either or both, they are good enough to juggle redshirts and potentially beat out the blue chipper in their way down the road. PSU may not see another great class of recruits until 2024

Wait! So is this "Spooner" guy someone I need to be looking out for? I need the 411 if I'm going to be hanging around in here. I'll change my profile pic so I'm less obvious too. . . .
Not really no, it’s all in good fun, but he tends to sh*t on posters from time to time. The fact that he was nice/polite to you is certainly a testament to your accomplishments in the sport. Very active forum, with a lot of passionate fans with strong opinions and not much in the way of filters.
