Over the past few days, everyone has been discussing the interview in Rolling Stone where Donald Trump insults Carly Fiorina and generally just behaves like Donald Trump. However, if you read the entire magazine, you will find a far more important article by Tim Dickinson about the recent wildfires in California, Washington, and Alaska. Although it does not feature any comments about Republican candidates' looks, it has actual relevance for the future of the United States and potentially the entire world.

The article focuses on the links between climate change and this year's disastrous wildfire season. The droughts in California mark an obvious link, but even in places such as Washington where precipitation levels have been normal, changes in weather have increased the risk of fire.

My Gut Reaction: I wonder if Republican presidential candidates would still think climate change is a hoax if their houses were burning to the ground.

Analysis at the link...

California's longest drought in recorded history was over 200 years long. It happened over half a millennia ago. No doubt also due to human industrial global warming.

Well that makes it OK, then.

I assume that's your argument. Because that's a common argument from our deniers.

That's certainly how I feel about murder and rape and war and so much more. Since they happened in the past, we shouldn't do anything about them now.

I didn't say that.

You need to support legitimate claims. There are plenty out there.

The California drought isn't one of them.

California f**ked itself. They have always had water shortages, and in the money they've spent on dams and canals, and transporting water from one end of the state to the other...... they could have put into desalination plants along the coast, building in phases over the decades...ensuring no water shortages ever happened again.
But nah.......let's just keep doing what is currently being done.

so, the texas wildfires were ok because perry was a republican and governor at the time, and all Texans were repubbers, but the cali wildfires only effect dems, there are zero repubbers losing their houses there, so we gotta say it was climate change this time, but not in TX a few years ago? ok, interesting.

It was all screwed up when we decided a long time ago to build giant cities in a place which doesn't have a lot of fresh water in the first place and the solution was just to pump it in from bodies of water miles away.

Save for some agriculture and related industries which the water system can support, Southern California and Nevada should just straight up be abandoned for places which have ready access to fresh water.
