Kroger CEO Confession on Inflation

So you don’t think Biden is at all responsible for inflation?

Inflation is the devaluation of the dollar which makes everything cost more. It's not measured by increases in prices for certain products or services, it's measured by an increase in the supply money chasing a static or falling supply of good and services.

Is that the number that is reported?

This would be a great point IF the inflation were ONLY hitting the US dollar.

However, the USD exchange rate has been mostly flat vs other international currencies.
Which means the inflation we are seeing has nothing to do with "dollar devaluation" here; it is market-based problems arising from pandemic supply chain recovery, compounded with a major war in Europe.

So the Kroger CEO is saying it's not inflation driving at least some of the price increase. What do you call it?

I'm not sure how this is news. We did it rather openly where I work.

Charging what the market will bear.

BTW, "gouging" is having a product that no one else has due to a unique situation and charging exorbitant increases. Drug companies absolutely do that.

Charging a little more for the generic Corn Flakes because Kellogg's raised prices on the real stuff is not gouging.

A true believer. If they keep pushing it I may get to see some of my cool socialist things enacted and maybe even some regulations.

Price gouging refers to when retailers and others take advantage of spikes in demand by charging exorbitant prices for necessities, often after a natural disaster or other state of emergency.

Now you can argue about the definition of "exorbitant" but they were absolutely taking advantage of an emergency to raise prices.

There's an "emergency" happening now?

Everyone is desperate for generic junk food?

Ahhh...so the prices of basic foods aren't changing. That's good to know. Guess inflation is only hurting the fat people so I have nothing to worry about and if YOU'RE not a fattie stuffing your face with Twinkies you can STFU about it too.

Do you EVER stop to think about how stupid a post makes you sound before you post it?
