Lee and Warner lead young Hawks into action at the UNI Open

Is there a wrestler that's debut has been more anticipated in the last decade? Not that I can think of.

I wonder what teams will have starters there? I don't think Minnesota's starters will be going, so no Lizak. But, Schwarm from UNI would be a nice test (I think Spencer would bonus him). Missouri and NDSU also have solid starting 125s.

Subtle way to make a huge announcement, how crazy is that. I assumed an announcement like this would come in front of the Old Capitol with thousands in attendance, fireworks booming overhead as Tom tells the crowd that Lee will be wresting two weeks from today, which would give us plenty of time to talk about it.

TC with the scoop. Nice work.

Spencer told me yesterday to quote him on this after tallking about the negative postings about TNT. “The reason I am at Iowa is because of Tom and Terry Brands and you can quote me”.
We knew this two April's ago when he committed on flo and gave us his top ten reasons he came to Iowa and had Tom and Terry at 1 & 2. Anymore breaking news from the room...

Mizzu and ND st have duals this weekend looking like the only team with D1 starters will be UNI

I like to see, read this, because it unfortunately needs to be reinforced with a lot of us Keyboard Jockeys talking crap or questioning TnT so much.

Did SL happen to have the 3" binder in the sauna with him, because I hear there's an entire chapter on the negative recruiting spawned by the cesspool that is HR?

I can't wait to see SL back on the mat....such a phenomenal wrestler and young man!

Yes, he really is both.

I don't envy Murin in his drop to 133...that has to be brutal!

His OT victory over Cole Matthews in the State Finals last year was an incredible match and fun to watch

know that, still a dumb suggestion or he was just taking a shot as a non fan. Don’t usually respond but either way seemed appropriate.
Actually, you just ruined a thread about Spencer wrestling to get on your recruiting topic again. It would have been nicer if it came from Spencer himself since he cares so much what this board is saying and thinking.

And, to say I'm not an Iowa fan is simply not true.

Don't expect many of UNI's starters. Over the course of the past 2-3 years fewer and fewer of them rassle for this event these days. So, not likely to see Schwarm.

Plus Downey graduating in a week...
So I decided to have some fun with my new Tournament Projection Tool and see what a lineup full of redshirts getting pulled would fare at Nationals. This pulls the shirt on Lee, Murin, Warner, and assumes Downey at 184.

Add 5.5 points for this with Murin getting 8th at 133, and that gives us ~125.11 points, which is 2nd to PSU at 135.05. (I have a bug where I can't do a "write-in" for a wrestler to a different weight than what he is already assigned on the roster, which is why Murin is left out of this).

Thoughts on this lineup? (I put a little nugget in there if anyone is paying attention...)

So this is a JV tourney?
Some teams will bring their full team. Mitchigaan State almost always does, as does Missouri. Outside of that, yeah, most DI teams have backups and redshirts rasslin.

I was wondering about Downey though. Being that it's an open, he can certainly enter. Anyone heard?

Kemdawg Champ, I like it .

You
Just got done listening to FloRadio Live and they indicated Murin is on his way down to 133. Combine that with Lee going this weekend at UNI and having Marinelli back in action and this lineup might be looking a lot different in a month.

You knew that was coming when he weighed in at 138 last time out. Why else would he be dropping below 140 back then?.......Let's do it!

As for the lineup, I definitely think Murin at 133 could go in there and bang with guys like DeSanto, Mueller, Micic, McKee, Terao, Forys, Erneste, Pletcher, Brock, Parker, and Gross... Theres nobody really unbeatable anchoring the weight. I've heard only good things about Murin, sounds like he is really progressing in the room. We hear this a lot about so and so developing in the room or really progressing and then maybe they don't perform as well as expected but I'm really optimistic about Murin performing well for us whether its at 133 this year, or next year, or at 141. Especially being a 4x Placer, 3x Finalist, and 2x Champ from PA. Theres no debate that PA and OH kids go on to AA the most at the collegiate level. Theres many examples of #20+ (recruiting ranking) guys from PA and OH who have AA'd since just 2010.
PA: #21 Minotti - #25 R.Cruz - #25 Schram - #26 Port - #26 Henderson - #34 Moisey - #37 Myers - #46 D.Cruz - #53 N.Brown - #54 Parker - #60 Lizak - #61 Renda - #75 Neff - #87 Schopp - #109 Conaway - #116 Thomas.

OH: #21 Collica - #27 I.Jordan - #31 Tessari - #32 Thomusseit - #35 R.Taylor - #36 Miller - #41 Brascetta - #54 Ward - #81 K. Moore - #111 Walz.

Murin fits the mold, and being at Iowa and in our room I don't think predicting 4x AA honors for him is unreasonable.

Whole lotta what ifs, but could potentially have 5 Finalists in Lee-Sorensen-Kemerer-Downey-Warner, with a champ or 2 in that mix. Then Bull as high AA. Stoll Mid AA. Murin Low AA. Gunther R12. Turk R16 or (1-2). Thats serious scoring firepower, and if you're going to make one move then make them all (assuming all parties are on board of course). If not, then shirt them all and be ready to unleash Lee-Murin-Lugo-Warner onto the world next year. But with Murin cutting down, you kind of feel like it is in preparation for a move to be made.. unless he plans on competing at 133 for more than 1 season and just wants to get used to competing at that weight. (Sorensen wrestled 157 for the first part of his RS year then was down to 149 by Midlands and has been there ever since).

That’s a bummer. I’m excited to see Spencer on the mat either way, but it would be better if he had some good competition.
