Lee vs Suriano

Well I thought I was as high on Lee as anyone, but some of these predictions are beyond what I would think is realistic (as a prediction or worse yet, a bet). While there is no doubt he is a special talent and could be a multiple time National Champ, thinking he rolls over Suriano is nuts.

The only way I would make Lee a favorite, is when they rematch after Lee wins the first time. Gotta respect and favor the kid that's been doing it for the last year at the college level. Suriano was the 2nd best 25 behind Gilman last year, so he's my pick to win until someone knocks him off.

Now go kick the crap out of him Spencer.

Plus watching his work in the room against “fairly tough” guys such as; Gilman, Clark, Dardanes and others.
So you’re telling me he’s beating Gilman? Because I saw Suriano wrestle Gilman very tough 10 matches into his true freshman year. So, unless Lee is clearly beating Gilman (possible), they’re even.

After watching Gilman shut down when encountering Suriano's strength, I give the edge to Suriano.

If I had a nickel for every time that I've heard that about "the next big thing," I'd be able to take the time to follow high school rasslin-if I even wanted to-as working would be a non-issue.

Oddly enough, I've heard that from the Iowa legion as much as any other legion of fans.

It'll be fun to return to this post someday. She's a marked in my bookmarks!

I know where you can keep all those nickels.....

Suriano and Lee could see each other four times a year when they are both in the line-up: Dual meet, Midlands, Big 10s and Nationals. Could be like Brands and Alan Fried where two insanely talented guys are squaring off against each other repeatedly. Throw in Daton Fix and it gets crazy.

They wrestled twice in HS and split. But I felt Lee out wrestled him both times. At the time I assume Suriano would be a Hawk, and Lee would be at PSU; and I was jealous.

As with all these types of matchups, all we can do is wait and see. Wouldn't surprise me if they end up being 5-5 against each other in college. Both are studs and I think they'll end up trading wins. I'm a Minnesota fan, but I love both of these kids and hope they stay at the same weight class for the sheer entertainment value that will bring all of us.

I thought Fix was expected to go at 133 when he comes in next year.....

I believe it's still up in the air. Honestly, I would love to see Lee-Fix for a few years, but Fix may just be the biggest obstacle to Lee winning titles. On the one hand, beat the best to be the best. On the other, one less potential roadblock if Fix goes 33.

Hard to tell, I was thinking during the Suriano/Stick match if it would take Spencer that long to TF Stick or if it would be a fall.

Well, you saw what Lee did to Stick level (maybe above) wrestlers.

I typically like to pick the offensive wrestler in these hypothetical match ups, so I will stick with Lee in a low scoring affair but would not be surprised if Suriano won (he will take at least one match from him over the next several years I believe). Some of you are not giving Suriano enough credit IMO. He went toe to toe with Gilman last year with Gilman obviously having a slight advantage. I don't think Lee will have an issue with his gas tank but may struggle a lit bit with Suriano's strength and competing against somebody who doesn't bend over for him may get him out of his comfort zone a little. Bottom line, this isn't going to be a 10-15 point blow out, it will be a low scoring affair settled by maybe a single TD. Suriano will pick bottom and likely escape - there will be no back points for either guy. My 2 cents for what they're worth.

There is no way Spencer has a 10% shot of beating Suriano by 10-15 points, nor is there a 40% chance Spencer wins by 5+. These are ridiculous odds.
I'm all over the 5% chance that Suriano wins. I think Lee wins but you can't pass that up.

I think if Suriano wants to beat Lee he better do it early. I think he’s topped out and not getting much better and once Lee gets some of that college “veteran savvy” its all over...

I believe I am correct that Lee was in 8th grade when he lost to Suriano. Losing to him in finals of large pre season tourney. The next year Lee won 3-1. Lee was only 9th grade then. I do not believe they have wrestled since.

Dang, you guys are sure about that. Maybe, but I haven’t seen a 125 with Spencer’s top game. . . ever. Will be interesting to see.
Who has he wrestled that make you think he has the best top game ever? Got to laugh about that remark, thanks for making my day! I give Suriano the edge.

I hate this matchup at this time. I have a feeling Suriano is going to test and work that knee big time. Hope it's ready.

Any match on tv is capable of being bet on. I have friends that have bet up lines in Iowa high school football so it can be done.

Have you watched Suriano wrestle? I mean like ever.
There will be plenty of intense hand fighting and a continuing battle for positioning. There will be very little retreating.

Suriano will take bottom. At least in the first match.

Neither kid will give an inch.

Advantage to Lee as far as the quality of the room he is currently training in.
Advantage to Suriano as far as conditioning (knee limitations vs no limitations) and brute strength.

Helluva match.

I'm with you. I think Suriano wins it all this year if they keep the shirt on Lee. And I'm not taking anything away from NATO, but think Suriano is better. And I think it's a toss-up between Lee and Suriano, but like you said, it would be a hell of a match to watch...and I hope we get to watch it! :)

I think Suriano's best chances of a national title are this year given that Lee and Fix are shirting. Lee, Suriano and Fix are the cream of the crop and will be fun to watch over the years. Lee and Fix will be a more exciting match and are 1 and 1a imho.

I've never seen Fix in person, but in his matches he looks huge. Is he going to be able to go at 125 next year or do you think he'll be wrestling at 33 or 41. He just looks to big to stay at 25. That said, I concur with your odds for Suriano...think he wins it all if Lee keeps the shirt on, and think he still has a 50/50 chance with Lee in it.

I like our chances.

If anyone can get backs on Suriano, it’s Spencer. Maybe not, but there’s no doubt he’ll give it a go.

Intriguing match-up, to say the least. I do know which guy’s training in the much, much, much better room every day. Of that, there’s no doubt (any elite 133’s our there, that’s a hint).
Are you saying top wrestlers should go to Iowa so that Iowa can win national championships?
