I think Beth has this process well in hand. I would be very surprised if she hadn't laid the ground work for Fran's replacement long before he was terminated. She strikes me as an intellegent administrator and leader.

You seldom see an executive level position filled over night. Let the process play out so we get a qualified head coach who will excite the fan base and embrace today's changes in college athletics.

I’m sure there was a plan and some groundwork laid. But once it comes to actually closing the deal things can go awry. Especially in this chaotic and fluid NIL environment. Not to mention the coaching carousel and number of openings. AD at most Power 5 programs in this day and age is extremely difficult. But I trust her leadership.

It benefits the administration and the soon to be coach to move swiftly. Need to have a coach by the end of the week.

Yeah sometimes this just isn’t the best move if it means missing out on coaches whose teams are still in the tourney. Ie. McCollum. Or a Will Wade.

You can get the Bradley coach, for example, any time.

Yeah if they don't get DeVries then we probably won't hear anything for like a week which is fine.

To me the only bad outcome from the search would be getting neither DeVries or McCollum and settling for a guy like Wardle or Calhoun. Losing Darian to IU and smoothly pivoting to McCollum is still a great result. They're in a good spot.

This would be the ideal situation. And personally my preference as well. We’ll see how it plays out.

There is one other coach I’d be really excited about. Niko Medved. I actually think he’s a better coach than DD or BM. Not sure if he’s in the mix. But again his team is in the tourney so gotta wait.

I would have no issue with Medved either, assuming we can get him away from Minnesota. Really good coach. I think DeVries and McCollum are both A hires and he'd be a solid B. Jans probably in that range too though he's going to be pricey. After that it's dicey

So true, the best laid plans can go off the tracks. With more schools in the mix, some with deeper pockets or pedigree, you never know.

I'll take Will Wade over any of them.

Why?

He has already proven to be a backhanded recruiter. Now, under the new rules, it's a free for all. He's good to do whatever he wants

If not Devries or McCollum, Wade is a candidate that intrigues me.

Medved is going to Minnesota most likely.

There's no secrets in today's game. Word is out that DeVries didn't take it because of NIL, which of course I can't believe we didn't have that going in as a main talking point. Why would McCollum or any coach now worth his salt want a job that has the lowest NIL in the conference ? If DeVries was your guy you've got to get it done, period.

All 3 guys coached at Drake. Niko had the worst results of the 3. No thanks.
