Come on, this was a great day for Iowa wrestling and were only talking about the guys who lost.

Brooks is very good on his feet and a beast on top. There aren't many guys who can consistent score against top competition with the old cross wrist tilt. I think he could have a huge year.

Great day for Sammy!

Sammy smelled blood and went for the tech. I actually thought he had a pin on one of his tilts

I remember Sam getting a pin from that tilt last year. Very powerful man. Sam is on an All American mission this year. Going to be exciting to watch him for the next few months! 184 is a stacked

Rogers won comfortably over Nolan Boyd, who is no slouch. I was just hoping for a win, but a healthy Brooks is a little better than people remember. People forget that Brooks had a separated rib last off season, which set him back a little coming into the year, and that he was not healthy after nationals duals and it showed at NCAAs and B1Gs

Exactly. I think he's way better than even Iowa fans are giving him credit for.

The 4 point near fall rule change will be huge for Sammy this year. He's by far or best tilter.

I remember going into a frenzy..."he's gonna stick him with that tilt"! Couldn't believe he was coming as close as he was, and was able to apply some pressure as well. I very much thought he was going to get it. THAT is what Sammy Brooks is capable of. He showed it early last year and lost his way, for whatever the reason. He can be crazy good I think. We shall see.

This was payback for Cadet Nationals in 2010, when Rogers pinned Brooks in the 171 lb. finals. As Shakespeare said, "Revenge is a dish best served cold." Nice job, Sammy!

Interesting, I didn't know that. ^^ Was it a fluke pin or was Rogers controlling the match at the time?

Following that, was Rogers considered a better college prospect in college than Brooks? Because it seems very clear who is the better wrestler now.

Congrats to Brooks for a very solid win!

I think Rogers and Brooks came on the same recruiting visit together too.

As for rankings D1 College wrestling has Rogers at the #4 recruit back in 2012 while Brooks was #20

Wait, that can't be true. Top 5 guys are always better than Top 25 guys ;) (As i jump for cover for the incoming insults)

That top 10 has not had much success. The 10-20 ranked and 20-30 ranked wrestlers have been significantly more successful.

In 2010 cadet nationals, Rogers was up 4-3, Brooks tried a double-leg takedown, Rogers got in an overhook and underhook, and then hipped Brooks over for the fall. When I looked up the 2010 video, I saw another one from 2013 Fila nationals between Brooks and Rogers. In 2013, Brooks was behind 5-0 but came back to beat Rogers with a couple of big throws. So, Sammy has avenged the 2010 loss now twice. In any event, he looked like a world beater on Saturday.

Good info, thank you...while I would never say that HS rankings are meaningless...it is also true that they are not perfect predictors of the college prospects of all of the wrestlers. Brooks v. Rogers appears to be one of those cases.

Here's hoping Brooks stays healthy all season...he is fun to watch!

Here is the match in question; Sammy had a nice belly to back but got pancaked shooting in.
