My preferred brown whiskeys are bourbon and rye. Picked up these two on Monday.

I see Iowans drink a lot of Busch Light but do you ever just sip and enjoy a good pour?

Not a Jameson guy. Like most bourbons. Lately I have been drinking Knob Creek and 4 Roses Single barrel. I have a bottle of Bookers I really like but only drink that on occasion. I tend to buy a bottle from most distilleries we visit. Would much rather drink bourbon over beer

I'd never been a big bourbon drinker, but spent a few days at a convention in Louisville over the summer & developed a taste for it. Like 4 Roses a lot, as well as Old Forester. Bulleit is pretty good, too.
Have a buddy who's big into bourbon, both drinking and collecting. Need to get with him & sample some more.

It took me a long time to acquire the taste for Scotch, but I finally got there.

Bourbon on the other hand, I just don't get.

Cedar Ridge Bourbon is fantastic. Their single malt is very good. Their rye is meh.

Templeton Rye is still my go to Rye. Finally actually made in Iowa again.

Theirs a couple distilleries very close to me that I've heard good things about. Need to try them.

I have found myself drawn to Islay scotch the last few years. It's not for everyone, but I enjoy the intense smoke/peat flavors.

I've just started dabbling in Scotch Whisky. I've found some that I like and a couple that I did not at all.
It is a very individual and subjective hobby. One of the highlights of my retirement tour was spending an afternoon in a Petershead pub, learning the nuances of whisky from an native bloak.....3 hours of delight and they all tasted good! :D

I've never had the taste for whiskey, Jack Daniels will make me gag. However, as I spend a significant amount of time at bars. I've been forced to take on the taste of Jameson which is by far the most frequent shot that is given out for free at the bars I frequent.

So, Jameson is my choice.

If you're looking to try and acquire a taste for it, try a mild highland scotch with a splash of cold water.

I started on Scotch about 15 years ago. I have no taste for the Islay scotches - too smoky. I have a bottle of the Suntori Toki right now along with a handle of Woodford and Beam(for a mixer). I've always loved whisky - it used to be the shot i would buy for the group back in college which nobody but me liked.

I just never acquired a taste for American or Canadian whiskeys. Bourbons or Scotch is my choice, thank you.
Canadian and blended whiskeys are just too mild for my taste. My tastes have moved toward the barrel strength bourbons and ryes. I like the burn.

Since some of you need a lesson...

Just about anything that comes out of Buffalo Trace is damn good these days...if you live in a state that has decent allocation and you can get your hands on it. Blanton’s, Rock Hill Farm, and Eagle Rare are my go tos. Old Forester 1910 is a decent sipper and the new Old Forester Rye is a good, cheap base for cocktails like manhattans or old fashions.
If you ever see a bottle of Thomas Handy Rye or Lot B, make sure you have a taste...amazing stuff.

My favorite is my avatar, but alas, that bottle is now empty. Now I drink Weller, EH Taylor, and Elmer T. Lee. For rye, I've been drinking down a bottle of Willett Family Special Reserve at barrel proof. I also REALLY like my OG Angel's Envy.
