The kid did his best, came up a little short of qualifying but accomplished more than all but a handful of wrestlers will ever accomplish! Hats off to you!
In his heyday, Metcalf would have won the trials after having already qualified the weight. But he is not in his heyday, and your statement has lots of doubt associated with it. I wish Brent well.Metcalf made his own bed so to speak, but I have little doubt he would've qualified had he won the US trials.
Was that the year that Zadick got the wildcard? He traveled to the games......and found out right before the tournament started that he was awarded the wildcard? We did not qualify 136.5 about 12 years ago, if I remember correctly. I may be mistaken, but I remember a big article in W.I.N. magazine that was bemoaning the politics and how we should have gotten the weight qualified.
I'm not sure I understand your intent but I think you mean "congratulate" versus "thank." Should we thank him for winning the trials, but not qualifying the weight? This is the first time the US hasn't qualified all the freestyle weights in...well, forever. Metcalf made his own bed so to speak, but I have little doubt he would've qualified had he won the US trials.
This is absolutely ridiculous. The kid did his best, came up a little short of qualifying but accomplished more than all but a handful of wrestlers will ever accomplish! Hats off to you!
I thought this was a never too late appreciation for inspiring the greatest wrestling meme ever created. "I choose down"
I believe so. It wasn't necessarily a wild card, but one of the Western European countries wrestlers got hurt and his backup got in a car wreck and injured on the way to the airport. So He was able to wrestle in the games since he was there and ready. I believe he was there with Schwab as his workout partner? Was that the year that Zadick got the wildcard? He traveled to the games......and found out right before the tournament started that he was awarded the wildcard?
It was a digital cartoon parodying his choice to go under Dake that was about a minute long. PSU fans aside it was comedy gold for any other college wrestling fan. I don't doubt the NLWC had something to do with it disappearing from the Internet a couple years ago. I'm sure someone has it on their hard drive; post it, please.Pic?
Maybe. But mostly just fed up with PC b.s.Some of you guys are dicks.
LOL.Some of you guys are dicks.

Dude, he was wrestling for the United States, not for Penn State. we are all fans of wrestling in general, and if some of you guys hold it against this kid that he went to a different school then so be it. I figure the kid is pretty down right about now and if we can help lift his spirits in any way then we should try. It's called empathy, Bro.

You are either ignorant or not a good troll.
Hey, lets be fair. Some of you guys are dicks.

What were you expecting when you created this thread on an Iowa board? If you felt the need to thank Frank, you could have done so in the FS qualifier thread on this board and probably would have gotten a muted response. In my opinion, it didn't need to have it's own separate thread. It came across as 'in your face', and it was taken that way. If a poster came over to bwi and wanted us to thank Dennis after our guy was "the man" at the weight for years, there'd be some that wouldn't take kindly to being reminded of that. You said nothing wrong, but the timing was ill advised is all I'd say.If you feel like my comment is directed at you then it probably is.
