Levar Woods - Bucs' with a virtual interview conducted today with Iowa's ST coordinator

I agree with this. It very well could be the opposite - Levar could advance his career and his kid would not have to be in his shadow.
Yeah man, what Dad would pass up the chance to be on the sideline while your son is playing ball on the team. He would not be coaching him directly. But to get to be there I would not pass that up for all the damn money in the world.

This would be a huge bummer and exactly why I posted that I didn't like him interviewing. He has been loyal to Kirk and the Hawks. Something seems to be a little off in all of this situation.

I'd roll the dice with Woods over Kirk. Not going to lie.
Marc Morehouse’s tweet yesterday hints at the likely explanation. I’ve heard similar things from at least 3 sources now but don’t feel as if I have enough specificity to post further.

This is interesting. I heard from a friend in Iowa City a couple weeks back, and I don’t know how valid it is, but that both Woods and Bell were particularly irritated with the large raise Seth Wallace got and felt slighted. 🤷‍♂️. I had heard at that time they may be looking at other positions. Again, don’t kill the messenger. Just passing on what I heard.

🤔🤔🤔
What’s the old adage? “Where’s there’s smoke, there’s fire” …

You might add “Wallace getting Asst. HC” added to his title as a potential source of aggravation.

I’ve heard more details but, again, I don’t feel confident enough to go beyond what you wrote and what I added.

I dont know if I would give that much credence to Moorehouse - to each his own. Many writers always trying to stir the pot. It will play itself out.

I heard from 2 separate sources at least a week before the news about the Bucs' interview and Morehouse's tweet. The news about Woods interviewing with an NFL team was far from surprising . . .

I'm a bit surprised that Woods is going NFL special teams for his next career step. Assuming that his career goal is to become a HC (and it might not be), it seems to me like he would need either OC or DC experience for that as opposed to more experience as ST coordinator.

Kirk probably has a few years left. Some of these younger guys would be crazy to not start looking around for different opportunities.

I would imagine most first touch interviews are done virtually. It’s 2024….
but the fact that something like this hit twitter is more likely someone is trying to do him a solid and help his present employer justify a raise or promotion.

Given Woods' experience, I don't see how he is qualified for OC or DC.

If Woods' goal is, indeed, to be a head coach someday (and I have read that this is the case), I would have guessed his best career move would be to look for a HC job at a smaller school. I'm not sure he's got the experience to be an OC or a DC, at least not at a major program.

Either way, if the speculation on this thread is accurate, it is about the only time I can think of a Kirk assistant becoming disgruntled. Most of the assistants have always seemed fully gruntled, especially the long-term guys.

Good point about the HC small school route and I agree with him not being qualified for OC/DC at a major program.

$700k as a ST coach at Iowa or say, a mil in the pros. (just spitballing). First the value of the dollar from IC to TB gets wiped away with cost of living. Probably pretty secure at Iowa for the next 3 years. ST coach in the NFL....you had better be good. Not saying he would not....just a bit more of a risk. Maybe he goes and comes back to Iowa later.....maybe he is not even offered. A bunch up in the air for sure.

I was wondering to myself if this is a factor. I always found it odd SW made more than Woods.

Not sure about this. No state income tax in FL & I'm sure housing prices are somewhat comparable in outskirts of TB.

Iowa is going to the flat tax deal at the lower rate also. Not as big of a difference as would have been in the past.

I would guess home insurance is a lot cheaper here than Tampa area.

Don't blame him if he left. He should have been named Assistant Head Coach instead of Wallace.
Wallace had B1G DC jobs staring at Him, No secret Fleck was after Him hard , Iowa made the offer it needed to not to lose Him to a direct rival and to assure they had Phil's replacement for DC in house when the time comes. That is reality .

Woods is one of our current coaches that I would love to see as the Iowa HC someday. This may be the first step on a circuitous path towards that ultimate goal.
Maybe. But I’d like to see him have some success away from Iowa before I would be sold. His entire coaching career has been spent at Iowa under Ferentz. I’d like to see him get some more diverse pedigree, and see if he can thrive outside of the Ferentz/Iowa culture.

Based on what? I keep seeing this sentiment on here, but nobody elaborates.
I’m absolutely shocked that the poster you responded to chose to ignore you and not give an explanation to his ill-informed opinion.

Here he said it a little less subtly.
Well, not everyone is going to be named AHC. Levar got a 12% raise last season to 700,000 $ ,(larger than most of the staff after the 2022 season) and likely stands to get another good raise this year. No matter what organization you look at , there will be people feeling unhappy about their job title or salary. I hope he stays but this isn't unusual.
