Heard story from credible source that is true. Gatens dad went to barta and said Matt is gone if Lick comes back. Straw that broke the camels back with threat of local golden boy leaving. Guess Creighton was an option with Matt being good friends and aau teammate with grant Gibbs there. Other believe it or not was New Mexico as both gatens got along well with Alford.

For this I’ll always be forever grateful to the gatens family. As we saw over the years how spineless barta was good chance he keeps Lick another year and doesn’t want to admit his first major hire was a disaster.

I really thought this was common knowledge. Crazy that's what it took to get him out of here. I still don't blame admin for the hire but I am not sure I would have given him as long as he got. That was a disaster.

I'd like to point out that Brust didn't just de-commit, had even signed his Letter of Intent, then wanted to transfer. Iowa let him out of the LOI to transfer to Wisconsin.

Jarrod Uthoff wanted to transfer from Wisconsin to Iowa less than a year later, and Bo Ryan was a total piece of shit about it.

Cartwright’s style was about as far away from Lick Ball as you could possibly get.
