Looks Like Hoiberg To Nebby Is Done Deal

I don't care how much clones fans deny it... if this does happen they'll be major bummed.
Was super bummed when he left for the Bulls, but where he goes from here doesn't hold a lot of meaning. Wish him the best. Happy with the progress Prohm's made. We got a nice young team in Ames.

I'll be honest.

This forum is going great. Glad I visited today.

But, I could've used a little more Hoiberg threads.

Hoiberg being the "Frontrunner" for Nebby is reported by Yahoo Sports, Sporting News, and NBC Sports, among others.
On the surface this looks like a great hire for Nebby. I, for one, always like it when a member of the B1G upgrades their coaching. It makes the league stronger and it pushes Iowa to either slide down the standings or improve which is a good thing.

Nebraska's "front runner" or has Hoiberg says he want this job? Big difference between the two...

I agree. However, if you were Freddie wouldn't you kill this story by now??

Or would Nebbie knocking be used by FH as leverage for some other job...? Not sure if that would make sense... Maybe Freddie just likes that attention??

Great news if it is true.Big Ten has MUCH higher academic standards than the Big XI. Not going to be able to bring in transfers that can't make the grade like many of the straight up thugs he landed at ISU. Debbie gonna suck. I'd be more worried about Miles getting an extension as Miles is a better college coach IMHO.
We all thought Fran was the better coach and hire too

Gotta disagree with this. I don't get the sense that he's widely respected. I know people care way more about the money sports, but Iowa brings up the rear in most sports that don't bring in the revenue that football and MBB do. And Iowa has one of the largest athletic budgets of any NCAA school, so there's no excuse to not be competitive across the board.

The biggest beef I have with Barta is that he does not hold Ferentz and Mac accountable. If anything, he's riding their coattails and rewards them with frivolous contract extensions after one big season. I'm fine with the football program, but I'm tired of Mac's schtick. The basketball program can do better because it has been better. These ridiculous buyouts make getting a replacement extremely difficult, and I wouldn't trust Barta to make the best available hire. He's the one who hired Lick after all.
The AD is always a hot seat. They get blamed for everything from what football players are doing to why the women's crew team gets a new boathouse. Gary is still trying to win back boosters list from the Alford/Pierre fiasco he inherited. He is doing fine.

Hear this narrative so many times.
Recruiting guys that leave early is better than recruiting guys with few options. It poses challenges but the ride is better.

Sure it is but who does ISU have coming in next year's class to replace those guys? The answer would be nobody.

Iowa's class with 2 kids is rated higher than ISU's class with 3 prospects.

If the guys listed all leave, who would your starters be?

Hailburton
Nixon
Jacobson
Lard
Lewis? Griffin?

Maybe the reason Hoiberg hasn’t publicly accepted or denied the Nebraska offer is his respect for Coach Miles. Let him finish his season out before raising any publicity about himself.

If so, I’m cool with that.

Fred is a classy guy, no way he leaks anything while Miles is coaching. I doubt any of the bloggers really know anything. Taking a shot on a guess to look smart IF it happens.

Wigginton and THT aren't going anywhere. If so, players come and go. Remember when people thought "how can we ever replace Ejim, Niang, Morris, Naz, etc..." I have faith in Prohm. No worries.

Back to Fred. I still cant get past his "I FN hate recruiting" attitude about college coaching. Nothing to go on, but I doubt he is going to Lincoln. If he does, and brings the same style he brought to Ames, he will do really well. The guy can coach. Can he get players to come to Lincoln? Time will tell.

It will all get interesting when he recruits against and beats Prohm for a prospect. If the stars ever align and Hoiberg plays against Nebraska, their will be so many Brokeback Mountain tears that the rivers in both states will once again overflow.

That be one butt-ugly game - ketchup-mustard-ketchup.

If he takes the Nebraska job, I bet he banks it as learning experience and extra cash before the Iowa State job opens up again. Then takes that job to retirement.

I don’t agree with this. But I do know that Nebraska is the dumbest school in the B1G so if they could stay academically eligible anywhere it would be there.

However, iswho didn't really replace those former players as the new thugs aren't quite as good as the old thugs.

Wiggs and Tucker aren’t going anywhere.

Celtics

Talen Horton-Tucker | Iowa State | Fr | SF | 6-4

A little short but a lot big. Horton-Tucker can do a little bit of everything on the court, and is one of the most switchy, versatile players in this draft. "He's got a real toughness about him," one scout said of the Chicago kid, who attended the same high school as Derrick Rose and Jabari Parker. Horton-Tucker is a winner.

Many mocks have him in first round. If he grades out that way, he has to go doesn't he?

How many football coaches have there been at Michigan since Ferentz was hired? How many times has MI won the B10 since Ferentz was hired?

Fix your own house.

LOL. Michigan fired 2 ADs to fix the problem. I like Iowa. I just can’t figure out why Barta hands out unnecessarily lengthy and expensive extensions with massive buyouts. I mean why?????

There is no rational defense of it.

He doesn’t want to make any decisions regarding Kirk or Fran.

The "problem" is fixed? Your football coach is a head case. Men's basketball is your only truly successful sport based in your logic.

What is my logic? Both Michigan’s BB and FB coaches are being paid basically the market rate for their services without unnecessarily long contracts or unreasonable buyouts. Using Barta’s math, Harbaugh would have a 12 year contract right now with a $75M buyout.

besides, not sure what Michigan has to do with anything about the relative merits of Barta handing out extensions like candy. Michigan's worst contract for a coach was when they gave Brady Hoke $5M a year to come from SDSU when he admitted he'd have walked from San Diego just to get the job. They basically paid him what they felt the job was worth rather than what they could have negotiated with him (far less). Thankfully that AD (and coach) are no longer around.

Prohm hasn't been nearly as successful with transfers as Hoiberg was and the freshmen class coming in next season is poorly ranked.

Busts:

Beverly
Brase
Holden
Bowie
Kasango

Correct. Prohm is a relationship guy. He's much better developing long term relationships with high school prospects. I don't think you see him taking many transfers, especially grad transfer big men.

I'll discuss next year's roster when next year's roster is known. In the meantime, you can worry about ISU's roster. I won't.

BTN just said the reporter who first announced the Frost to Nebraska deal, Tweeted that Hoiberg is a done deal.

He may be right about Hoiberg, but you didn't need to be Merlin to conclude that Frost was going back to his home state to coach the team he loves and played for.

Understand but his tweet with Frost was breaking the news that the deal was finalized

2 more than Iowa has won since Harbaugh was named HC at Michigan as if either of those is relevant to Barta's handing out Iowa money like candy.

If you want to defend Barta, please do so. If you want to discuss the overall crappiness of Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke I'm sure I could tell you far worse things than you would come up with on your own.

You are full of shit. MI hasn't won a football B1G championship since 2004. Nothing since Harbaugh has been coach.

Don’t forget Harbaugh sucks too.

And he never beats Ferentz.
