One would hope it is not as it appears on the surface but Little Mussolini certainly has shown in the recent past that he can be vindictive.

DeSantis Vetoes Flood Control Funds For Blue Counties

June 16, 2023 Politics, Republicans

Florida Politics reports:
With a sweep of the Governor’s veto pen, more than $3 million in funding for water handling in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties went down the drain. The $3.14 million in reductions — all having to do with flood control and drainage — were among the half-billion that Gov. Ron DeSantis excised from the 2023-24 budget Thursday.
President Joe Biden declared Fort Lauderdale and other parts of Broward County a disaster area in April because of flooding from historic rainfall. Flooding around here, after heavy rain events, has trapped people in their homes, according to the request.
The Orlando Sentinel reports:
Gov. Ron DeSantis axed funding on Thursday for Central Florida projects to stop flooding during the next hurricane, strengthen government cybersecurity defenses, celebrate Black history and tackle gun violence. The governor’s nearly $511 million veto list included about $15.3 million in projects for Orange County.
Republican state Sen. Joe Gruters slammed DeSantis, saying in a statement that the governor “took it out on Sarasota County” because Gruters endorsed former President Trump in the 2024 GOP primary. “It’s mean-spirited acts like this that are defining him here and across the country,” Gruters said, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
With the exception of Sarasota County, all of the counties mentioned above went for Biden in 2020. In Orange, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, Biden won by double digits. Miami-Dade went for Biden by eight points.
In a separate article, Florida Politics notes that DeSantis also vetoed funding for the arts and even playgrounds in blue counties. Yesterday DeSantis vetoed funding for repairs and maintenance of public broadcasting stations.

But those counties went for him in the Gubernatorial race. Such an inconvenient factoid.
And the Feds are giving money for many of those things, so RDS DID sign a budget that included
•$27 Billion for education.
•He also asked for and got $1.1 BILLION for increases in teacher pay.
• He also eliminated sales taxes on items like baby cribs, strollers, car seats, etc.
to help young families.
Too many things to list that benefit all Floridians.

There's no excuse for this petty little man.

So, why the veto?
I don’t know every detail but as some of you - who aren’t bots - may know budget season is when you ask for EVERYTHING and you don’t expect to GET everything.

Ask for the sun the moon and all the stars and understand that some stars might not be in the final budget.

Got it. The $12.00 in sales tax on a crib over storm mitigation.
