Looks like tOSU is in good shape for another national title. . . .

You may be right in terms of Morelli, but not placing in this tournament in comparison to the other 2 was more of a bracket thing. Lost to Massa who made the finals and then knocked out in a close loss to Preisch, who hammered Hammond earlier in the tournament. Ultimately think this comes down to Morelli and Rasheed, unfortunately I don't think the Scuffle solved much in terms of this, not unlike the Scuffle's of the past with the PSU heavy situation.

Eventually, Rasheed is the guy. Got a ton of upside but may be at the wrong weight this year.
I know what his road was like I asked someone on the PSU board if they thought Moreli was the man going forward because of it I agree with your points as well

Just saw a post from USA Wrestling that Snyder is pulling his Olympic RS and competing for the Bucks this season. I'd say that probably puts them in the driver's seat. Bummer.
Looking at the scuffle, PSU's frosh are kicking butt. Nolf of PSU looks good and the 74lber just beat the number one seed by seven in semis. Wow!

Wha?

The #1 one seed was also on his back (dude must donate to the Referee's ball) and should have been pinned by Rogers in the quarters...He also lost in the wrestle backs.

I thought we learned at nationals last year Realbuto gets the benefit of questionable calls

Always thought Realbuto's #1 ranking was suspect. His best win against the 174 field coming in to this tournament was Bryce Hammond. That being said, if Nickal wins tonight not sure how you could put anyone other than him #1.

It's a 3 Team race not 4!!! Fosu has way to many question marks. Sure fire AA's at 125, 165 & hwt. Yes a healthy Streibler probably AA, Martin unproven. 133, 141 are possible but I would not bet on it. If you guys trust 184 for them I think your nuts!

Discount tOSU if you wish, but Martin gave Nickal his closest match of the year so far 4-3 and nearly had a reversal near the end of the match to win I believe I read. Micah is very much in the AA hunt, other than the 1 match hes lost this year, he has looked rock solid. JDJ is who he always has been, inconsistent. I don't count on 184 either. But you HAVE to think that the health of hunter stieber was a huge factor in pulling Martins and Snyders RS' this year, how he has looked in the room etc (hes been wrestling live for about a month now I think, drilling much longer.)

Micah Jordan is a top 4 AA with a good shot at wrestling Saturday night.

Now let's talk top 3 teams.

Iowa has 4 guys that could easily be in the finals the way they look now. In order of confidence : Sorensen, Gilman, Clark & Burak. Then throw in Stol, Brooks, Grothus & Meyer as guys that find a way onto the stand.

Oky St. has 2 finalists in Dieringer & Heil. Then AA's at 125,133,174 & Hwt. Add Smith at 157 IF he pulls the shirt on him. Don't they they get one at 149.

PSU has finalist in Retherford, Nickal and probably McIntosh. Then AA's at 125(chance at finals), & 157. As good as Nolf is I just don't see him beating IMart or Miller. But he is getting 3rd. Possible AA at 133. Also could have AAs at 141 & 184 but doubtful at this time.

So everybody has a few holes and teams like Cornell, Mizzou & even Michigan could throw a curve ball at the team race. BIGS is huge this year in so many ways!!! IF the Hawks can get our 4 horsemen into the finals (which is not that far fetched) and 2 more AA's that should be enough to get it done.

I agree with you on most of that, but I just think tOSU deserves mention, as they have 100+ point potential just like the top 3 do.

Anywho, one thing that kind of worries me is how much bonus pts Retherford, Nolf, and Nickal accumulate. Our 4 horsemen can bonus as well, but it seems like PSU has the slight edge in that category. It's going to be one hell of a team race, and as you said B1Gs will be very important to getting good seeds and be in a good spot to get our guys like Stoll, Meyer, Grothus and Brooks in the best position to ascend the podium. Not to mention 3 of the top 4 125s are at B1Gs. Same at 149. Those 2 weights i feel will be very key to the team race.

I see PSU with 5 possible finalists: Nico, zain, nolf, nickal, Mack. Possible aa @133,141,165 (huge wildcard), 184. If Nevills could somehow return I would feel confident in calling them favorites. Iowa with possible finalists in: gilman, Clark, Sorenson. AA's in Brooks, Meyer (probably, although I wasn't impressed @midlands), Burak, Stoll. Grothus? If he makes weight and is healthy I think he AA's, but not top 3. Ohio State: in finals with NATO, Jordan (probably), Snyder. AA's with Martin, Micah, JDJ, obviously Hunter is a huge question, but I tend to think that Ryan wouldn't have pulled Snyder's shirt (and Martin's) if he didn't think they could win. That tells me that he believes Steiber is coming back at top form. If he does, the Bucks may very well go back to back. Okie state has a lock in 'Ringer. After that I think they could legitimately AA in every weight given best case scenario. Two big questions: 1. What is status of Brock's knee? 2. Will jojo go? In the end, I think that john smith will be a dad first and a coach second. He keeps jojo shirt on and costs them the CHANCE at a title. That being said, if Marstellar can wrestle to potential (which we haven't seen all year) he is top 6. All things considered: I think PSU has biggest potential, need to 3-5 in finals and 2-4 placers. Very doable. I think okie state is next biggest threat but also biggest wildcard. I feel they have several guys who could score big or could go 1-2. Then Iowa, who needs everything to go right, 3 horses to go finals, Grothus, Meyer, brooks, Burak, still to AA. Then bucks, who if they have Hunter at potential jump to favorite. But that remains to be seen. Should be a fun 2nd half of season.

Spoons Mick is already in Heils head he'll for sure be in the hunt to AA this year and battle it out with both the wrestlers you mentioned Heils strategy of wrestling the top guys close won't work with him did you see how that played out between the 2 of them in hs?

whats great and disappointing is we won't know until it's time. iowa won't meet these other guys until later so it's all speculation. ok. st. was early so meaningless.don't sell burak short I believe he is our most improved wrestler this year.

Illinois will expose tOSU today. UI was not at Midlands to key on this dual, look for illini to suprise.

IMAR destroys Jake Ryan 24-8. Ryan absolutely quit in the first period, afraid to go with IMAR

Illinois 23 / tOSU 19. Matin (197) suffers concussion (?). Not sure what's going on, Martin is in the training room for examination. Looks like Illinois wins (?).

Ohio St 22-17 over Illini. I didn't learn much about tOSU.
No Hunter, Tav (Haines in for Tav), Snyder, and Courts. Myles Matin wrestled a 149 back up.
No Brunson for Illini

Of course tosu thinks they can win, but the reason they ultimately decided to burn a year of Snyder's eligibility probably has more to do with the likelihood of him competing for the university after the Olympics. If he wins the Olympics he will have some tremendous opportunity's in front of him. I understand he could take the $250,000 and not lose his eligibility. But he will not be able to take any endorsement money . My guess is with his age,and looks, his marketability will be off the charts. So, yes he says hes returning, and that sounds good and all, but Ill bet when its all said and done, this will be his last time wrestling in the ncaa tournament. So basically its use it, or lose it. Smart move on their part

I think this is one of the main factors as well. My guess is that if Snyder wins the Olympics that school and wrestling HWT at tOSU become an afterthought. Or at least he will want to get the hell out of there ASAP. Which losing this years eligibility in exchange for just wrestling the post season is only a bonus. And if he does stay we may see him do this every year.
