One of my dear friends, a 70-ish year old veteran, found out he had stage 4 cancer last Friday. The firecracker, storyteller, drinking buddy and mentor was just a shell of himself just over a week later. Life ain't fair boyz...gotta hug the ones we love as often as we can.

I'm battling colon cancer right now. Just finished my 8th chemo out of a 12 treatment regimen. This disease sucks ass. Far too many good people have been taken from this earth way too early because of this diseases and the lives it's impacted..... just unbelievable. I'm lucky. I'm on my feet and despite an insane year with my health (had a liver transplant last December, diagnosed with cancer unrelated to any of my liver problems in June, colon surgery in June, and now chemo) and way more people have it worse. I'm taking my family to Pasadena this year and I've been able to keep living through all of this.
My thoughts and prayers are with the op. You're very right about hugging your loved ones.

I know from personal experience that cancer sucks. Having said that, I do believe that we on on the verge of really exciting new immunological treatment for many kinds of cancer. It's coming, and pretty quickly.

Been there. I guess it doesnt matter but I've buried friends much younger. A friend from college died of brain cancer at 26. My best friend died of ALS at 43. These were guys just like me - I had conversations with them about death long before they got sick. For some reason it hurts to know that they were no more equipped or prepared for it than I was/am.

Is your friend a Waverly guy?

One of the best people that I've known was killed by a drunk driver. Drunk driver lived.

Ever since then I've had a strong bias against drunk driving, moreso then the average person and I couldn't be a juror in a drunk driving trial.

No. Lived in the Loo, served in the military then lived in Clear Lake. He has been my neighbor in Cedar Falls for 15 years or so.
You have my sympathies. Tough stuff. Lost one of my very closest friends to cancer in June. I still lose some tears when I think of him. I loved him like a brother.
