Losing as early as Iowa did really sucks

Man, losing in one of the first games of the tournament sucks. I literally have zero interest in the rest of the weekend for basketball. At least when you play Friday that excitement builds up a bit more.
35 of the past 36 NCAA tournament’s we haven’t had to worry about the second weekend because we’re not there. We make the tourney about 50% of the years and are home early 98% of the time. 36 year history of garbage and irrelevance.

Losing while NOT playing your best. Really... REALLY sucks.

I can handle a game where you just get beat, because the other team is better.

At some point the worm has to turn, right?

Yep, at least a Friday night game would've let me enjoy the first round (and the idea that MAYBE Iowa could have won a couple of games) for quite a bit longer.

Things came crashing down immediately this year.

I have little interest in the rest of this tournament now, either.

I don't think it will under Fran. There may be other years where Iowa gets to that second hand. Second weekend though? Doubtful.

Also, I feel like it's good for Friday teams to see the Thursday upsets to help them focus. I wonder if there are more upsets on Thursday than on Friday? Maybe it's even?

The first day wasn’t even 1/2 finished, and already the tournament was over for me. Yet another Fran choke job. I appreciate that he got us out of the Lickliter ash heap……but the Hawks are never going to be any better under him. There will be no Sweet 16.

He is a decent coach. Not a bad coach, not a good coach, and definitely not a great one.

This year taught me a new lesson: don’t watch the first round Iowa game. I didn’t watch, though I tried to avoid knowing the result in advance of watching the recording. But a coworker told me as we were leaving the office, and that was that. Disappointed, of course, but I went ahead and watched some games last night and enjoyed them.

Had I taken the day off to watch Iowa, man, I’m pretty sure I would have been too disappointed to watch any games thereafter. Maybe by Saturday I coulda checked back in.

I may never watch another first round game live again. Just too much bad history with this program.

Yep - Its hard to make an argument that he hasn't hit his peak in the NCAA tourney especially when he hasn't made the 2nd weekend in his entire head coaching career.

He did get the BTT monkey off his back.... so maybe sometime in the next 12 years he can take the next step

Think a a bout how Kentucky fans feel— and they buy their teams

I didn't watch a basketball game or highlight yesterday, because I lost interest with iowa out + I didn't want to see/hear the talking heads showing highlights of Iowa. UK losing did provide Iowa fans with some cover.

Seeing Indiana got totally trashed by St. Mary's while Iowa needed an 8/10 3pt performance from Keegan + a lucky bank shot to win....that brings us back to reality. This Iowa team was flawed. Keegan as great as he was, was not enough.

I'm glad the Hawk players got a chance to celebrate after the BTT..that is an achiievement and for a moment they were on top......but this quick exit says they weren't as good as we thought/hoped.

12 years and zero sweet16s Iowa under Fran is solid at a bit over 0.500 in B1G, but a sure bet to never make a run in NCAA. My bracket is busted, I had Iowa in Final 4.

Honestly what disappointed me the most was this team had showed such mental toughness and resolve all year, hardly ever panicked. Yesterday all that was thrown out the window, felt like we were playing scared from the tip and never recovered. We were only down 2-3 pts most of the game and kept jacking shots early in the shot clock.
This goes for Fran as well also, felt like he turtled up and decided to lean on Jbo and Connor too much. Waited until 4-5 minutes left to start designing plays to get the ball on the block. Kept playing zone against out of bounds play, those lapses just killed us.

Yeah I said the same thing earlier this week, I really wish this game was today so win or lose I could at least soak up some of the atmosphere, especially with another 12/5 upset last night (although that kid from NMSU is very brash, and we lambast Jbo?). Just be glad we have kids that can actually be good reps of the U of I post game, that kid didn't come off well and showboated for the last 2 min, lucky he didn't get a T.

Anyway, I digress, and THEN! A trendy Final 4 pick goes down to the Peacocks! Wow, yes, it could be worse, imagine the Kentucky Rivals boards literally melted down last night. Yep, I could've fully enjoyed all of that including a Creighton comeback and win as well...oh well, thus why it's called March Madness.

I know this will most likely be shouted down, but I don't see how you can pin this on McCaffery. The team was buzzing along. If these players can't get themselves charged up to play in what might be the highlight of their careers, then I don't know how a load of rah-rah BS from the coach would make much difference.
Unfortunately, it is what it is: a horrible disappointment for the players, coaches and yes, the fans. You look forward to this event for a year, and the whole dream fizzles out before the tournament barely gets going. Sucks for everyone involved!

And like clockwork when Carver isn't full on a Tuesday in January there will be idiots with amnesia about yesterday and Oregon who talk shit about the fans and question why there isn't more enthusiasm. The fact this program gets any sellouts with a coach that hasnt made a single goddamn sweet 16 in 12 seasons is pretty impressive

Well there should be a good game for Hawk fans today at 3pm. Go Lady Hawks! ;)

Yeah agreed, I am watching, but not really watching as I type this comment.

This makes no sense on many levels. First, providing them less support in January certainly doesn't increase their chances of winning/getting a better seed (which would allow them a better chance to make the Sweet 16). Second, the team was in the top 5 last year and finished this year #16 while winning the Big Ten Tournament, if that isn't enough for you to support the team, this program ain't for you.
