We are getting a lot of early offers out in Texas. With the buzz from Eno's verbal and the big push for some of their skill guys we might be able to go back to the Hayden days where Texas was as important as border states for the Hawks. One or two more big gets and I see our class filling out pretty quickly and 18 gaining momentum.

When Carl Jackson retired that definitely hurt recruiting in Houston area. don't think we have gotten anyone from around Houston since then. He was a former HS coach in Golden Triangle. Most Iowa recruits have been from northern parts of the state.

Adding Davis and Kennedy to the staff, and winning 12 games, are starting to help in Texas. Hopefully Eno can sway a couple guys to come north with him.

We have more offers out in Texas then in IL. That may change of course, but from what I've read these kids are seriously looking at us and it's not a case of just putting out an offer to a high 4 star in case there's mutal interest.

Maybe it's a unique year, but I think this could pay dividends for years if we are able to land 4 or 5 Texas kids who are successful.

Getting some early PT for a guy like Eno would be a nice selling point to future recruits as well. Hopefully the kid comes in and contributes early and goes on to a successful career. Establishing any sort of footing in Texas would be fantastic.

I saw an interesting story the other day that indicated UT is no longer getting the cream of the crop in-state.

What metric are you referring to that UT is no longer the cream of the crop? Recruiting? I would say that TAM, Baylor, and TCU have closed the gap instate but UT is still on top IMO. I don't think strong is the right guy for that job. If they get the right guy in there and the sleeping giant that is UT Football will come alive.

I don't follow recruiting closely and I don't remember the source. But I think it involved the relative number of four-star and five-star recruits at Austin. I'll see if I can find it and get back to you.

Texas finished very strong (no pun) late for the '16 class. Including a five star lber. Having said that, I do think AM, Baylor and TCU have probably become their equal or have passed them. For in state talent.

I think I was getting my threads mixed up a little too. Its unusual to have multiple threads discussing UT on this board. Don't bother looking for the article I think everyone realizes UT has fallen off from its recruiting high water mark under Mack Brown. I think the right guy could get them back to close to that point very quickly.

Texas is always going to be Texas. It has too much going for it, starting with money, to ever fall very fall for very long.
