I don't understand all of the democrats on here celebrating. I get that McCarthy sucks and he's pandered to the MAGA extremist wing too much. In the end, it did him no good. But this only gives the 10-15 MAGA extremists in the House even more power. I'm sorry, I don't see how this is good for the country. I understand the temptation to want to watch Republicans engage in a political version of Lord of the Flies, but I struggle to see how Matt Gaetz successfully flexing his ability, along with a small handful of other extremists, to hold the House hostage is good for the United States.

i will say it should encourage both parties to find more common ground rather than pander to the extremists. if mccarthy worked with democrats and didn’t break the deals he made with them the motion would have lost by 200 votes

I'm not celebrating, but McCarthy wasn't better or worse than some MAGA extremist. Republicans control the same votes in the house no matter who is speaker. I find it poetic that he gets taken down by the same beast he helped create.

If you think that this is going to change anyone's mind on the Republican Party, you are crazy. I'm still surprised that anyone thinks there are voters left who only support the Republican Party because they just don't understand how toxic the leadership is. A man who encouraged an insurrection, has been impeached twice, indicted 4 times, and successfully sued in civil court for all sorts of unethical and immoral behavior is still the overwhelming favorite to be their nominee. And if he wins, those who vote against him in the primary will fall in line in the general election.
Anyone who would be affected by something like this stopped voting for Republican candidates a long time ago. The sooner democrats and moderates realize that, the better. Their voters love this sh*t. They aren't turned off by it. And the Matt Gaetz extremists just got more powerful. Is that something to celebrate?
