Sam Stoll is on an absolute war path this summer. He is down around the 260 range (usually over 300 in off season), training like a madman in the weight room and on a weekly weigh in schedule. By all accounts he looks and feels great! The kid is on a mission, and Hawk fans should be stoked to see him crack some skulls next season.

One of the things i'm most looking forward to this upcoming season is a healthy Sam Stoll! He will be critical in our chances of getting a team trophy. Hoping he can finish his career healthy, as a 2x AA, especially when injuries have prevented him from ever becoming a 4x AA (I firmly believe he would have AA'd as a FR/SO if healthy).

I'm especially encouraged to hear that Sam is dropping weight - I would think it's due to wanting less weight/strain on those knees. My knees have definitely thanked me when I've lost weight before hiking big mountains, as well as building up my quad muscles to help take the strain off the knees.

If Berhow gets him dialed in, I will have to eat crow !! I was on the bye bye Berhow bus. Not to proud to admit when I am wrong

Great to hear - guy definitely has the mental fortitude to get some hardware. Hate that he has struggled with injuries. Go Stoll!

Very good point

Been watching Sam since 8th grade. His strengths are double arm slide by, upper body locks, bear hugs, leg trips, and lateral drops, turning kids with arm bars. 260 or not if we keep trying to turn him into a single / double leg shooter we are asking him to wrestle his opponent's strength.

I agree 100% but if he could develop a couple good leg attacks then it can only help him.

Yeah if he can't shoot, he is just going to be another pushing heavyweight who wins most of his matches and loses only a few, but only gets on the podium with some luck and a draw.

Stoll is actually a very active heavyweight. He attacks legs a lot. Some don't recognize it because they grew up as little guys. Sam does a great undertook to far knee pick. He pressures and attacks the entire time. Find a video of him and really watch how much motion he creates. Snaps, pass bys/slide bys, whip overs, Russians, body locks. He might have the most diverse attacks on the team. I don't want him to change his offense, just add a little better defense against sweeps and hi-cs.

Nobody is trying to change his style at all, or even implying that. Some things work really well in high school, but don't transition as well into college competiton. He's not going away from those things- just adding to his arsenal. Not like he'll be perfecting a John Smith low single, but a nice snatch single is there like WWDM eluded to. With that being said, he's always had the tools, but he was also always ALL of 285. Now more agile and better in the knees.
