Ha! No, none of the "left-wing nuts" started the War on Drugs. That was a bunch of Bible thumpers in DC in the mid-80s. The University of Iowa didn't have anything to do with it then or now.

I was a freshman for the 86-87 school year. Wow.
Football...We were beating the piss out of teams. Choked against Michigan and Illinois. Still won 9 games.
Basketball...We won our first 17 games, and were #1 in the country. It was tough to get tix, but no matter, watching games at Vitos was insane. Some of our battles with Michigan, Purdue and Illinois were just epic. I was in CA for Spring Break and never forget watching us lose to UNLV at a bar in San Diego, crushing. But what a wild ride.
