I have a feeling he would make a very capable starter if need be.
The kid had good energy ... and he made the most of the reps he saw. I would agree that it is way too early to anoint him ... but I would also say that it is understandable if Hawk fans also liked what they saw from him too!Off of 3 plays?
I would agree with that. I came off a bit harsh. Sorry. The kid had good energy ... and he made the most of the reps he saw. I would agree that it is way too early to anoint him ... but I would also say that it is understandable if Hawk fans also liked what they saw from him too!
Nah ... you're good. There's nothin' wrong with tapping the brakes too.I would agree with that. I came off a bit harsh. Sorry.

Good player has a better arm than I expected.
They were the 3rd and 4th receivers last year. Don’t forget the almost 80 catches between the other 2 receivers. Our wr’s suck still. Did any group of wr’s in the country have just 22 catches in 13 games besides ours last year ?( talking the smith boys). Let’s give cooper and others a chance
Good player, has a better arm than I expected.
HawkFan hit it on the head. Last thing we need to be thinking about is backup QB when Iowa’s best offering is alive and well.
I’m not sure I follow. What should “we” as fans focus on to prepare ourselves for Iowa State? Scheme, conditioning, two deeps, ketchup, mustard.... let us know so we, as fans, are not looking past ISU.
I don’t think I read one post above that suggested KF is playing the wrong qb or even one taking anything away from Stanley. It’s basically a thread about a young qb playing a few snaps. That’s it. I personally was pleased with what I saw in the #2 qb, but that doesn’t mean a whole hell of a lot at this point.
What's the saying, "The most popular player on the team is the backup"
.
Who is saying that the wrong QB is playing? Everyone is basically saying it was great to see the backup get in the game.
That all begs the question, how did he end up at a school known for conservative offense with a qb that stays in the pocket?here were Payton's numbers from his SR season playing in Texas's largest class
completion rate 70.1%
2526 passing yards
33 passing TD's
165 carries for 1134 yards
15 rushing TD's
total offense
3660 yards
48 TD's
ESPN rated him the 17th best QB and the #1 QB in Texas. his HS team is a run 1st team. his 2 longest 2 TD runs were 85 yards as a SR and 83 yards as a JR respectively. one more note according to evaluators he can make all the throws, short or deep. that should answer some questions. playing the largest Class in Texas means he played against the best level talent in the state.
GD recruited him that's why and GD recruited Stanley. also not all Iowa QB's stay in the pocketThat all begs the question, how did he end up at a school known for conservative offense with a qb that stays in the pocket?

JR had 218 rushing yards on 67 carries in his 1st year starting with Wiesman the leading ball carrier with 227 carries and 975 rushing yard in 2013. then in 2014 had 67 carries for 176 yards with walk on FB Wiesman leading the team with 213 carries and 812 yards.
CJ had 237 rushing in his 1st year starting in 2015 but in 2016 he had -13 yards on 83 carries.
this is why I never understood why people were upset with Davis, people expected Texas type stats with Iowa level recruits at the skill positions.
getting Payton was a good pickup just like getting Stanley was a good get. this give a solid 1-2 option at QB. Stanley is a solid Pocket QB while Payton a pass 1st and run 2nd QB.
These are the dumbest types of posts on this board. We fans may cost iowa a few games by talking about backup players.HawkFan hit it on the head. Last thing we need to be thinking about is backup QB when Iowa’s best offering is alive and well.
