no, it took Wetjen nearly an entire season to figure out how to get on the field. Lester said it himself, the kid doesn’t know how to run a route. A decoy doesn’t work if it has no idea how to occasionally not be a decoy.

But sometimes Iowa does surprise. In 2015 the OL looked scary bad and CJ looked horrible in open practices only to go 12-0

Really want a starting OL from a Power 4 team. Lauck and Pieper can fight for the other position. Our OL seems to get injuries over a season.
Boy do I miss the days of our QB room being filled with the likes of Petras, Padilla, Deuce, May, Labas & Deacon.
To be fair, that list incredibly includes 3 four star qbs that were all misses.
We'll be fine. With an NFL quality QB and our existing running backs. The defense will have a lot to worry about.

Who knows if the numbers we hear are true, but if so, he would make more at Iowa next year than he would in the NFL.
Obviously his entire contract would be more in the NFL.
Fcs D in the playoffs is equal to and better then a lot of fbs.
I'm cautiously optimistic Iowa will have a legitimate passing game next season. Imagine averaging over 200 yards passing per game next year. When's the last time that happened? Heck, when's the last time Iowa cracked 200 yards passing in a single game?

Because he is a doofus that wasn’t even a great QB and has never coached WRs before. Sometimes it can work but Iowa needs. wr coach that knows how to play WR IMO
I have no idea why he still employed. They should let Lester hire a WR coach.
I am not going to speak ill of people I don’t know but some people just ain’t cut out for it, coaches and players alike.
I want Lester to succeed, just not sure he will be allowed to (until the Chief Fossil rides off into the sunset).
Lester is my favorite coach since Norm, but this is a legit concern.
I think Kirk now understands that he operates better in a CEO role with respect to the offense. He hired Lester to do a job. I think he lets him do it.
if that were 100 true he would let him hire his own offensive staff and no way some of them make the cut.
Why do I think that Dillon Gabriel and Cam Ward would have somehow also been "misses" had they come to Iowa under BF's tutelage?

Do you know anything about Mota? Been here two years and hasn't seen the field yet to my knowledge. Played QB and receiver in high school and is really fast. Hope he can contribute.
I'm still skeptical. Can he really be better than an Elon, Utah Tech, or an Abeline Christian QB?
Cade threw for 251 against Illinois State in the season opener. It would be great to see that on regular basis.
Gronowski only averaged 157, 197, 203, and 181 yards per game in his four years in a balanced offense at SDSU, so it's not like he's going to put up Dan Marino numbers, just needs to be efficient with his completions. Percentage doesn't mean much if you are averaging less than 7 yards per attempt. But he's also able to run and we haven't had that consistent ability to pick up a third down with your feet since the Rudock/Beathard era minus a couple games of Sullivan. As much as I loved Stanley's QB sneak pick ups, those aren't quite the same thing.
I had a suspicion it was just his piss, marketed as beer this whole time. Glad I never tried it. Intuition FTW once again!
